5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, true artwork at last! 1 Jan 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is a most beautiful volume. I have always admired the work of leading Titanic artist Ken Marshall, and this book satisfied my appetite. The paintings are amazingly accurate, even down to the stars and constellations! Anybody who has seen the author's art will agree with me how sacred his work is to Titanic lovers. However, this volume goes further, there are many paintings in there that I personally have never seen before, and I was tremendously satisfied. My favourite painting of the whole book is on pages 86/87. I believe this to be true artwork in an era where the artistic world has sold itself out to snobbery, greed and the work itself comes second place. I would strongly recommend this read to everybody who is interested in Titanic and maybe to those new fangled art enthusiasts, (philistines), who could learn a thing or two from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ken Marschall's Art of the Titanic 29 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wow, what an amazing book, for the Titanic lover like myself this book really brings the ship to life, on some of Ken Marschall's work it shows his ideas from sketch to final painting, one of the nice things is a painting of the Titanic entering New York Harbour, an idea suggested by Walter Lord, Ken's attention to detail is staggering, even the stars are correct, although some paintings are fantasy such as the one mentioned and Titanic and Olympic passing each other off Portland, it just adds to the drams, Ken manages to make the Titanic sinking a masterpiece, she looks so graceful even in her dying moments lights blazing and boats rowing away, no one will ever really know what it must have been like, Ken manages to let you dream your way back to 1912, I would recommend this book for anyone who has seen the paintings and wants to see more, I currently have 60 books on Titanic, needless to say several have Ken's paintings, this book pretty much brings them all together with a nicely written history of the work the ideas and an excellent forward by James Cameron and the book is written by Rick Archibald, 10/10 from me

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Any Titanic Library 21 May 2002
By E. Bennett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I discovered this wonderful book at a Titanic Historical Society convention and it is one of my most prized possessions of all my books on the subject. Ken Marschall is not only a foremost Titanic historian, but a maritime artist of great talent. Like many, he fell in love with Titanic legend as a child and his passion for art soon combined with his passion for the "unsinkable" ship. This book is a presentation of his love, from art he did as a young boy, to his later paintings. There is art of Titanic in her moments of grand triumph when she was the "ship of dreams" -- and then heartwrenching ones of her in her final moments that freezing April night. We see detailed, haunting Marschall works of how she is now in a watery grave, based on photographs taken by Dr. Robert Ballard, the oceanographer who discovered the wreck site in 1985. Near the book's end, however, is one of my favorite Marschall drawings, one of a scene that never happened, a beautiful Titanic entering New York harbor as her maiden voyage ends. This alone is worth the price of this magnificent book that belongs in any Titanic buff's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Titanic must-have 21 Jun 2000
By Susan Paxton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Ken Marschall has become the definitive artist of the Titanic, and his art has the reality of the photographs we so often lack. This book includes much of his Titanic work, including his very first painting of the great ship, and as a bonus includes some of his other liner artwork, of the Lusitania, Mauretania, Queen Mary, Normandie, and the Andrea Doria, as well as Titanic's two sisters Olympic and Britannic. The Titanic was simply the most beautiful ocean liner ever built - her lines are absolutely perfect - and Marschall captures her with love and respect. Very highly recommended.
