More About the Author

Cath Kidston Ltd was founded in 1993 when designer Cath Kidston opened a tiny shop in London's Holland Park. She began by selling the vintage fabrics, wallpapers and brightly-painted junk furniture she remembered fondly from her childhood. Her clever, witty re-working of traditional English country house style meant that her shop soon became a cult success.

Gradually Cath began to design her own prints and products. One of the first was a printed ironing board cover - practical, quirky and with a distinctive floral print, it has come to epitomize the Cath Kidston look. The product base has expanded steadily to include an extensive range of homewares as well as women's fashion and accessories and the 2008 launch of the Cath Kids brand. Various products are manufactured under license by companies such as Churchill China and Fulton Umbrellas.

Over the years Cath's high-profile collaborations have included creating tents with Milletts (2005-6), Nokia mobile phones with Carphone Warehouse (2006) and collectible radios with Roberts (2005 onwards). In 2008 she collaborated with Tesco to produce printed eco shopping bags made from plastic bottles to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Sales of the bags raised almost £500,000 for the charity and saved about six million plastic bottles from landfill. In 2009 Cath collaborated with Maclaren to produce a children's buggy in her classic spot red print. She has also published five books, most recently Sew! with Quadrille in October 2009 - a follow up to 2008's hugely successful Make!

Cath Kidston Limited has expanded steadily to become the unique global lifestyle brand it is today, with Cath remaining Creative Director. Currently there are 30 shops and concessions in the UK, two shops in the Republic of Ireland, seven in Japan and one in Kuwait. In October 2009 a shop opened at Heathrow Airport's revamped Terminal 4 - the company's first in an airport - and in November two new temporary 'pop-in' shops were opened in London to make the most of the busy Christmas trading period. The business' successful worldwide mail order, web and wholesale divisions also continue to grow.

Cath Kidston Ltd is one of the most influential and original design companies to emerge from the UK in recent years. It was announced in the Queen's 2009 New Year Honours List that Cath Kidston is to be awarded an MBE for services to business in 2010.

3.0 out of 5 stars a pretty little book but do you need two? 14 April 2008
By loulou
This book is a recycling of Cath Kidstons' original book 'Vintage Style' so dont make the mistake loads of others have by buying both and being really dissapointed (me included!)

By recycling I mean it's basicaly exactly the same book, same text, same pictures but a smaller, cheaper, paperback version with a different cover.

Having said that, it is great and you should read the reviews for her Vintage Style book to get a better idea of what you are buying!

4.0 out of 5 stars Coffee table material 11 Mar 2010
By Rebecca
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you're looking for a book that will help you create the Cath Kidston look then this will give you inspiration but its not really a 'how to' guide. I think its ideal for a coffee table but lacks specific content, I still like it though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cath Kidson Vintage style 9 Feb 2010
By I. Ward
This book was not what I expected, it is more of a reference book. Whereas her other books have thngs to make, I still enjoyed reading it but I could have got this in the library as once read, I doubt I will pick it up again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Tips!!! 20 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is pocket sized, by that I mean it is smaller than A5. But what it lacks in size it certain makes up for in content.
Do not expect, patterns, projects or pages of explanations; this is a book of ideas!
Each idea is gloriously photographed with a brief explanation and some suggestions/variations and they really are accessible.
Though many of us may love vintage fabrics, may see them in second hand curtains or clothing, it is often difficult to come up with ideas for their rebirth into something new and useful. From tea towels to shopping bags; from book covers to feather quilts - nothing is off limits to a little vintage!
The book is divided into rooms within a house but many of the ideas are easily adaptable to a broad variety of uses and many are not even fabric based. Glass jars and bottles, old furniture and coat hangers to name but a few are all given a vintage make over.
This is a little book of inspiration that you will pick up again and again. I would recommend it to anybody who enjoys `vintage'!

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the idea more than the reality 27 April 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love the idea an concept of this book but it was a little disappointing for the price. Lots of lovely pictures but it didn't really tell me anything I didn't know - thought it would have some 'how to' guides and places to get things from. It is a pretty coffee table book.

By Jay Rainbow VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
not the best book ive ever bought, its pretty and looks good on the shelf but the content is week and very basic. the images are tiny and its more of a token book then a resource one.
ok for the money but I woulndn't recomend it unless you are fanatiacl about cath kidston books. there are better vintage style books on the market.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice little stocking filler 1 Mar 2011
It's been out for a while but is still a sweet little book, with lots of photos and tips. It's certainly not a substantial book but it's little size means its great to throw in your handbag and dip into if you're on the bus or waiting somewhere. And it makes a nice little gift - my other half bought it for me as a stocking filler at Christmas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book to look at and very dinky! 21 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A really pretty book which fits nicely in the hands, as its a neat size. I read the book cover to cover in under an hour.

The artwork is stunning - at least some of it is as some pictures are more "shabby" than "chic". There are some really good features in the book as it looks at different room settings e.g living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom including childrens room and bathroom. There are also some other room settings mentioned as well.

There were a couple of writing errors.

There were some good ideas of things to make. I wouldn't rush out and buy this book and I wouldn't pay anymore than 5 for this book.

Would I recommend it?
If you are a Cath Kidston fanatic and must have every book she has written then yes its one for your collection, if you're not a huge fan you could live without it. The book is pretty to look at though!
