Tippitoes lightweight steel constructed Narrow Swing Shut gate comes with cool grey plastic fittings to give what is a utilitarian product a touch of style. The gate locks at both top and bottom and has a twin button mechanism. The gate is suitable for use with children up to the ages of 24 months. Extension kits for the gate are available as separate item. Will fit openings between 68.5 -75 cm. Safety in the home is paramount and the Tippitoes Self Close Safety gate has recently been awarded a Practical Parenting best buy award. Also available is the SG4 Extra Narrow Gate for openings of 61-67 cm and the SG5 for openings of 75-79 cm--with the addition of one extension this extends to 85-88 cm. A further extension kit will bring the opening size to 95-99 cm. Extension Kits can be ordered separately. No more than two extension kits should be used on one gate. Pressure mounted and presented in fresh white metalwork enhanced by silver/grey plastics, the Swing Shut Gate is suitable for children up to 24 months. SG3/4/5 in White/Grey.

I was going to go for one of the Lindam gates as they seemed the most popular, but then I realised the space I wanted it for was too narrow (moral = measure your space!). This gate came up with the best reviews of the narrow gates. I'm really pleased with it. This gate, in my opinion, has some of the best features of any gate I've seen:
It opens in both directions
It doesn't automatically close, you can leave it open
If you give it a little push, it swings closed and locks.
The opening is very easy (one-handed) when you know how, but not obvious, so hopefully quite childproof (squeeze AND lift).
It's a pressure system so no screws. Mine holds fairly well on two smooth gloss-painted wooden uprights, it slides a tiny bit.
Also included are "cups" to screw into the wall into which the pressure pads can be secured. I haven't used these yet but probably will as my baby gets bigger and stronger.
It feels sturdy and well made.
I would definitely buy another one. I currently have it in the doorway between kitchen and living room and my little 10 month old comes and rattles it and stretches out her little hand through it towards me while I'm cooking dinner. So cute.

I purchased this gate as it was one of the few that would fit a narrower gap. I am using it to stop my dog (a small terrier) from going up stairs and it does the job. However, living in an older house (with uneven walls / floor etc) it was fiddly to set up.
More importantly, whilst it has done an excellent job of keeping the dog downstairs, the gate can be pushed open with enough weight behind it. He's only done this once, purely by accident, but should he actually cotton onto this then it will obviously completely negate the point of the gate.
Until the day that my dog rises up to overthrow his master (or at least rises up to go upstairs and chew my socks) then a good purchase.

This gate fit perfectly in my doorway (we've got some pretty narrow doorways in Spain) and was up and running in minutes. As with any non-fixed gate, dont expect it to withstand a constant pounding, but that isnt the point of this gate.
It is a perfect barrier for young children and pets and easily is moved from door to door.
Be careful if you are looking for a gate to withstand some serious challenge from a kid who wants out, this is not it.
Also needs to be noted that it is very easy to open with one hand while holding the baby in the other. Both my wife and I have no problems.

Does the job perfect for slightly narrow doorways. We have 2 top and bottom and work a treat and easy to open with 1 hand.

Tippitoes Swing Shut Safety Gate Narrow Easy to fit and use. Particularly liked that it was self closing. So easy to fit we used it in 2 different places in a day.

Beware, pressure points require fixed anchor points
I bought two gates for use in doorways because they were pressure mounted gates which should be moveable between doorways and not cause any damage to the wall or door frame. Read more
