Firstly at the price this lead is, I immediately doubted it was going to be a genuine Samsung item despite having a Samsung sticker on it.
Secondly when it arrived I was more sure it was a copy due to the very poor quality of the plastic mouldings and the lack of plating on the USB contacts.
Also the Samsung label is badly printed and misaligned when compared to my two original Samsung leads. The cable is also very stiff and inflexible and the main USB plug housing is warped.
When connected to my Galaxy S and my PCs running Samsung Kies the PCs would not recognise the USB connection.
This is a problem that I have found (and is acknowledged by Samsung UK technical) when using poor quality USB/micro USB leads where there is cross talk on the +D/-D wires.
Now you pay your money and you take your choice and this is not a good choice to make.
It may work for you when you get it but don't hold your breath. It's probably ok as a USB charging lead but not a lot else to my mind.
Admittedly the company issued me a full refund almost instantly I complained but it still doesn't make this a particularly good deal because of the faffing around I had to do.
Update October 14th 2011....
Whilst at no point have I said that this lead is definitely a fake, this evening I was telephoned by a person from Mobile Accessories who had taken umbrage at my review of this product.
According to him he felt that I was a dealer trying to discredit them with bad reviews.
I am not a dealer and never have been, I am simply someone who has spent his entire life as a communications and electronics engineer both in the domestic and commercial fields and who recognises a poor quality product when he comes across it.
During his complaining, his story actually changed twice. Once he told me that they sourced the devices direct from Samsung then he told me that they sourced them from a supplier who sourced them direct from Samsung. However they source them is of no interest to me, the item is still not functional.
Also I will reiterate that my review was of the product concerned and that I have never once criticised the vendor in this matter.
Indeed as I said the company concerned issued me a full refund the moment I complained.
They did not ask for me to return the faulty item either nor did they offer me a replacement which, to my mind was a bit strange.
My review was of the quality of the item not of the quality of service from Mobile Accessories.
However I do not expect to be telephoned and told that they have arranged for my review to be removed, an assertion which Amazon deny.
I have since spoken to Amazon's customer service and have been assured that further investigation will be carried out. I have assured them of my full co-operation.
