I was nervous of switching from the product I had been using for more than 2 years but I am very glad I did. Tints of Nature smells pleasant (it has no chemical odour as my old brand did) and was easy to apply. All my grey is covered perfectly and my hair is in good condition. I like the cap that covers your hair during the colouring process as there is no danger of drips (my old brand dripped messily, which is why I gave up on it in the end).

After reading the Tints of Nature website's tips for covering grey, I used a hairdryer to warm my hair for a couple of minutes while I had the cap on, and I left the product on for 40 minutes before rinsing. I also avoided washing my hair the following day. Ten days later, the colour hasn't faded at all so I feel confident that I won't need to colour it again until the roots show in 4-6 weeks. (I'll edit this review if it does fade in the meantime.)

The only thing I find odd about this product is the colour description of Dark Blonde. I consider I have dark brown hair but my previous John Frieda colour was 6N (though described as Light Natural Brown) so I chose the Tints of Nature 6N shade. It's perfect.

I will definitely continue using Tints of Nature from now on.

easy to apply. no head tingling as experienced with high street dyes. Colour came out a little darker than I expected, but covered the grey nicely.

Excellent product 18 May 2011

I purchased this product for the first time only recently, after doing some online research. I was looking for a healthy alternative to a brand that I used for almost a decade. I have about 20% gray hair, more so on my temples, and my natural hair color is dark brown. The Medium Brown 4N by Tints of Nature seemed to be the best match, so I gave it a try. I had nothing to lose but gray hair.

When I got the package, I read everything on the box and in the instructions, just to make sure I'm not missing any warning, as we all know, these things always come with all sorts of warnings. Though, I did not do the allergy test 48 hrs ahead as I never had any allergy issues before, even with brands that are known to be less safe. And I did not regret it, because I had no issues at all. It's been now 5 days since I used it and I am completely fine.

As for the product, I instantly liked it. The color smells very nice, it does not have the typical chemical/toxic smell to it, and I did not even have to turn on the fan in my bathroom. The preparation time is just as with any other brand, as there are two bottles that need to be mixed well, and you are good to start with your journey. The mixed color paste is just thick enough that it does not drip from your hair, and still, you can run your comb through your hair if you need to. I also like that it is made of the certified organic ingredients, and that it has the least amount of the toxic ingredients, which they have to use in order for it to fully cover your gray hair. Be aware that this is not a 100% non-toxic/organic product, however, it is the least toxic permanent hair color that I could find on the market.

In addition, it is made in the UK, and to my knowledge, they need to comply with the much stricter EU safety standards, unlike US manufacturers. That fact alone gives me a piece of mind, as FDA has not changed their laws about the beauty products and their safety since the 70s.

And the most important thing, the hair color came out beautifully. It has a warm tone of the dark brown shade, and it fully covered all my grays. My hair looks shiny and natural. The gray portion got a very slight tint of a dark brown with golden undertones, but they are still very well covered. No one would be able to tell that those were gray hairs at some point. The previous brand that I used to use would give me a very dark brown with black undertone, and it was a bit too dark. I love this product, it is the safest I could find, its packaging is made out of recycled materials, and they use organic ingredients, among other things.

The only thing I don't like is its price. It is about double of what other similar products cost and I have not seen it in any store in CA. Which means, there is shipping time to include in your wait, so I am about to order myself another box.

I highly recommend this brand, and this is after using hair colors on and off for about past 20 years. I started experimenting in my teens, and by now I consider myself an amateur-pro, if there is such a thing.

Not for People Allergic to PPD 23 Mar. 2012

I began having obvious allergic reaction to hair dyes at the end of 2011 (took awhile to recognize). I did some research, thought maybe Tints of Nature would be safer...the product description makes you "feel" like it might be safer. (It has a lot of organic materials, but still has PPD). It claims to be more "organic". I have read that PPD builds up a toxicity in your system (I even waited for over 7 weeks since my last reg hair dye). My reactions included: redness, itchiness, sores on my head, hard time breathing, and hives that are still on my face. I am going to Vegi Dyes next. Just a big word of caution for those with problems with PPD, this still has it in it and it is still dangerous at low careful.

Works better than salon "organic" hair color 23 Aug. 2010
By Laura - Published on

After paying a fortune to have my hair dyed at a salon which used Organic Color Systems, only about 2 weeks later the color had already faded a lot and my gray roots showed through completely again. Since I was going on vacation and short on time, I decided to try Tints of Nature 6N dark blonde that I found at Whole Foods.

It's now been over 2 weeks and the color hasn't faded at all and the gray is still completely covered (and I've been in the sun every day on vacation). It also looks natural, as opposed to one solid color. It hasn't turned brassy either, as hair color that doesn't have a lot of ash in it tends to do on my hair.

What's more, it was very easy to use, inexpensive, and it's safer and gentler than most hair dyes I've found (no ammonia, minimum PPD). For all of those reasons, I love it and recommend it.

Sensitive to hair dye 14 Feb. 2011

I've tried other products like l'oreal that I have encountered bad reactions to - itchiness, redness, swelling and severe dry patches of skin that lasts for 2wks+. Decided to give this product a try after doing lengthy online research. Difficulty is that for dark haired dyes to work, you need some % of ppd hence the reactions. All you can do is control the lvl of ppd you are exposing yourself to. While this product has the minimal amount of ppd, I did exhibit a bit of itching and slight swelling. It's definitely an improvement vs. l'oreal but there is still reaction if you are sensitive to ppd. If anyone can recommend another permanent dye w/no reaction, please do!

Nice Results with 6N + 6TF 20 Aug. 2014
By AmazonFan - Published on
I decided to go gray three years ago, and really loved my silver-white hair. However, I am 58 and looking for another job and after going on several interviews, I realized that age discrimination is a reality that I need to deal with. First, I started having a colorist weave in some lowlights. Brown lowlights looked terrible with the white hair, and when she tried a darker color the next time, the lowlights came out ash gray. It's very hard to find a colorist who knows how to do gray hair blending, by the way. So, with more than $200 down the drain on lowlight attempts, I decided to bite the bullet and just color it medium brown (my natural color before I went gray) myself. After researching several organic products and reading online reviews, I decided on Tints of Nature. I first bought the 4N Medium Brown because the Tints of Nature website says the product will lift your color one shade lighter. But then I read more online reviews and found a u-tube clip that a woman shared where she colored her medium brown hair with T of N's medium blond color, as she had heard the color comes out darker than is expected. The result was medium brown. So I went back to the store and bought 6N and 6TF--caramel/dark toffee blond to cancel out the ash lowlights. I didn't have time to do the recommended gray hair treatment (my hair was fairly healthy from not dying it for 3 years) or to do a strand or patch test. I used the shampoo and crème rinse that comes in the box, then towel dried my hair as directed. I mixed half of both colors into the developer (and am saving the other halves and other developer) and coated my damp hair with the mixture, then ran a comb through to ensure every strand was coated and that the color was evenly distributed. I was really afraid that the color wouldn't cover my white hair or that it would be too light, and that it wouldn't color over the ashy lowlights. So I waited the recommended 40 minutes before I washed it out. To my relief, the color came out a beautiful, rich medium brown with slightly golden/reddish highlights (the 6TF)--and it fully covered my white hair. While I hate coloring my hair and especially hate doing touch-ups, such a mess, this is a good product. I experienced no burning or itching from the dye, nor was the smell terribly offensive, and best part, no animals are tested. Once I get another job, though, it's back to silver.
