drawing on influences such as philip glass' solo piano, leonard cohen and beat poetry, holland's ever changing, ever (grossly) underrated nits come up with an album which even outdoes their '91 magnum opus Giant Normal Dwarf. Piano and percussion led, Hofstede, Stips & Kloet fuse their individual talents in a glorious, melancholy yet life-affirming, wintry classic. Listen to the leftfield balladry of Cars and Cars or Saint Louis Avenue - puts the flaccid modern day likes of coldplay & keane to shame. A Wonderful band at their peak.

This album contains some of the Nits' most beautiful songs e.g. "Cars & Cars", "Saint Louis Avenu" and "Fire in my Head", some excellent more up-tempo numbers ("e.g. Tree is Falling") & the wonderfully dreamy "Christine's World", and a lot more besides. There are some interesting piano / percussion combos, some with bass or cello, throughout the album

Only let down by a couple of pretty awful tracks "I tried", and, surprisingly, the title track.

I can't understand why the Nits haven't had much success in Britain. Maybe they should try to get a slot on Jools Holland's TV & play a few festival gigs over here?

TING 9 Jun 2007
By Mephistopheles - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
To say it's one of the best NITS albums is always hard - since every album has its own, unique style. At least this is the one I favor most at the time being.

For people who always search for the different thing it is the "must" to have: The songs on TING are composed involving artist's devices extra created for the songs. Yet the music goes easy to your ear - and sticks there. I found myself amazed at how often I play the album without never getting tired of even one of the songs.

I am just amazed about how few people know the NITS in the USA, they are a definite, well known tip in Europe.
