It does the job very well - and you can use it as a tool to "etch" a pastel painting.

Saw an A level student using one of these and thought it was fun. Got one for my 4yo daughter and 6 yo son. They went down very well indeed and make a fun addition to a pencil case. They actually rub out surprisingly well. The rubber refills are quite small so they run out fairly quickly, particularly during the initial rubbing out everything in sight phase (not as destructive as when I got my first drill though). There are a fee refills in the pack and they can be bought separately. It's a pity there isn't a pouch of some sort to keep the refills in, I imagine they'll get lost very easily when they're loose in the pencil case.
