5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY STUNNING - A REAL WINNER OF A BOOK 10 July 2014
Having collected over the years, many hundreds of cookbooks (baking books in particular) - blame my Austrian/German family - I have a fascination with Scandanavian cuisine as I feel it is sadly lacking on our TV's and in cookbooks, so I was delighted to come across this lovely tome and eagerly awaited its arrival.

Oh my Goodness, what a gorgeous, gorgeous book! Presented in a 'vintage' style with stunning photographs of many (not all) of the dishes, you find yourself immersed in the recipes and tales of life in Tina's home country.

I hope Tina writes a follow-up book solely on Baking as that would make me literally whoop with joy but in the meantime, I will confine myself to every morsel of this book - words, photos and recipes.

Highly, highly recommended for even those less experienced in cookery/baking as the recipes are easy to follow and the text is in a style which is easy on the eye (some books' texts are so very small as to almost be illegible).

I had intended to give this as a gift to someone who loves anything 'Scandi' but no way is she getting it (sorry)!

If it were possible to award 10 Stars, I definitely would - the book is a stunner.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVELY BOOK, LOVELY RECIPES, LOVELY AUTHOR..!!! 15 Oct. 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
A superb cookbook of Tina's versions of classic Scandinavian dishes, as well as how she would adapt some dishes from the wider world to serve at home.
This beautifully-illustrated book is an enjoyable read from cover to cover (very rare in a cookery book these days...) covering her upbringing with her Grandmother (her parents owned and ran a famous spa hotel-restaurant) and the development of her career to become Sweden's #1 female celebrity chef (I recently heard her described as 'Sweden's female Jamie Oliver').
The fact that she worked her way up through the cookery world (as a youngster she once cooked in the kitchens at IKEA) gives her cookery writing a real, refreshing credibilty.
I first encountered Tina when a Swedish friend gave me the DVDs of her English-language TV series New Scandinavian Cooking (...well worth hunting for, by the way!) This book really reflects her inimitable, bubbly, quirky personality which has made her TV cookery shows so educative, amusing and entertaining.
The fact that Tina's first two cookbooks sold a million-plus copies shows how highly her cooking is regarded across Scandinavia. It never ceases to amaze me that she is so well-known across the US and Germany from her previous five books but so little-known here.
This super book deserves to bring her to the attention of a much wider audience in the UK and is certainly one book which will stay out in my kitchen to be used and not relegated to the sit on a bookshelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cookbooks, but more international than Scandinavian 16 May 2014
By SandrasKitchenNook - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I have never seen Tina Nordstom's cooking show, but when I was offered this book to review I jumped at the chance. I love cookbooks from around the world, and haven't had the opportunity to check out many from Scandinavia. The book is large, beautiful and full of color photos and scrumptious recipes. I recommend the Chanterelle and Ground Beef Pie, Chanterelle Topped Veal Patties (yes, I love mushrooms!), White Wine Poached Mussels with Fennel and Garlic, and the Flounder Fish 'n Chips is sure to be a hit with the kids! My almost-12-year-old daughter is actually a huge mussel and fennel fan, so the mussel recipe was about as perfect for her as you could get! The recipes are clear and typically easy to follow.

On the down side, when I pick up a book that touts itself as cooking from a specific place, I'm looking for their specific ethnic recipes. Even though this book is called "Scandinavian Cooking", there is recipes from all over the world. Greek Lamb Balls, French Chicken Stew, Tomato & Buffalo Mozzarella Salad and--the one that made me laugh out loud--American Pancakes! I wish she had stayed with Scandinavian cooking or named it something different so there wasn't the disappointment of finding an international cookbook instead, but that is my only issue with this book.

I received a copy of this book from Skyhorse Publishing for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!! 27 Jun. 2014
By Bay Buyer - Published on
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I am Swedish, and not only is Tina my new favorite Chef, but my new favorite TV personality.

Her recipes have a wide range, from Swedish to American, and retain the classic elements, with her twist.

The story of her and her family is enough to buy this book alone, but I love the recipes, as well. I am a Caesar Salad devotee, and her recipe is classic with a few little things that make it better...adding lemon ZEST, and tearing the bread for the croutons. Little things that make a big difference in the end result.

And, her TV simple Smoked Trout is my all time favorite fish!

By the way...this is a beautiful, large, hardcover book.

I will get this for Holiday gifts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scandinavian Cooking = Comfort Food that will satisfy! 13 Nov. 2014
By Krista R. Bainbridge - Published on
I received an ARC of this cookbook - my opinions remain my own and honest.

I'll be honest, I've never had Scandinavian food - well, at least that I am aware of! If this book is representative of their food culture, I definitely want to eat more of it! This colorful cookbook from PBS TV cooking personality, TIna Nordstrom, features more than 200 recipes that will have you drooling over photos (kudos to her photographer!) and ready to try new things! I never realized how much comfort food you could find in Scandinavian recipes! Potatoes au gratin, chocolate mousse, stews and more - oh my goodness these are amazing! With the weather turning cold, hubby loves to flip through this cookbook and pick a meal based on what looks like it would "warm his bones". So far, the recipes have not disappointed! Well-written and easy to understand directions - this is a great gift for the homecook in your life looking to expand their repertoire!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scandinavian Cooking is Perfect for this Bostonian 27 April 2014
By Mom's Lifesavers - Published on
I LOVE this cookbook! Tina Nordstrom has filled this book with so many delicious looking recipes, it's going to really be many months of fantastic cuisine at my house. I grew up with European parents in the Boston area, I've been searching for a cookbook that brings together my nostalgic memories of visiting my family abroad and eating with them. The recipes are all pretty much using ingredients I can find here, I've just substituted a few and they have come out great. My favorite recipes so far? Mashed Potatoes with Lemon (yum!), Chanterelle and Ground Beef Pie, and the Chocolate and Ginger Mousse. All seem really complicated, but really easy! If you want a cookbook filled with recipes for all abilities AND great photos to compliment the recipes, you're in luck!
