This is a lovely album of original, thought-provoking, haunting songs which I has rarely left my CD player since I got it. In seeing Kate live last week, however, I realised if anything it perhaps doesn't do her justice - while her singing comes across as very pleasant on the album, in fact it is quite overwhelmingly beautiful when heard live. In the recordings here her voice is so held back and quiet I feel like she hasn't been allowed to use her full amazing vocal range. Secondly, the harmonies (Tim, I guess?) on many of the recorded versions actually seem to spoil the songs a bit, for me anyway.

So while I would completely recommend the album, I would even moreso recommend you to see her live, and hope that future recordings of the great new songs we heard at the gig might emphasise her vocal talent more than this album.

I saw Kate a few weeks back and like the other reviewer, have been on her Myspace page daily ever since. I've even been listening to snippets of the album on US iTunes where the the album is already available.

Suffice to say, I haven't heard a combination of voice, song and production like this in a very long time. Singer songwriters often rely on the voice as their main tool, but often the song, or melodies get left behind. In Kate's case, both parts carry equal strength and power.

Kate writes classic songs that could have been written anytime over the past 30 years. They're all timeless, and all have strong hooks and heartfelt lyrics.

Kate will be a big star...please tell your friends about this today!

Tim's House is an modern acoustic folk album of exceptional talent with the tendency to understate rather than overstate, as such it is an album that takes time to fully appreciate (not that that's a bad thing).

Kate Walsh's vocal is somewhat reminiscent of Kate Rusby's voice in the way that is is clear and crisp with good diction, but also in the way it is an emotional voice.

Repeat listens have only served to increase my enjoyment of this quiet wonder.

Having not heard of Kate previously, I saw her live last night supporting the truely excellent Richard Hawley. She performed an acoustic sole set, just her and her guitar, and filled the stage with her lovely voice and playing.

I was not alone in being completely captivated by her performance, and at the end of her set I went out into the lobby to buy her "Tim's House" CD. The bonus was meeting Kate and getting it signed as well.

The first play immediatley brought back memories of the live set, most of which was covered during the performance. The songs are very strong and memorable. On the CD Kate is accompanied to good effect, but the intensity and clarity of her live set (three rows in front of me) will be hard to beat.

Quite simply, since buying this CD, I have played it continually (well almost!). The combination of Kate's voice with the gentle finger-picking of the acoustic guitar produces a very enjoyable and addictive sound.

My favourite tracks are:
Betty - which I could just put on repeat (it is that good!!),
Tonight - ditto
Goldfish
Your Song

Okay, music is a personal choice. So, if you only like power chords and Heavy Metal, this `might' not be for you. If your taste in music is at all eclectic, maybe you should have a listen to this. I play this music when I am trying to chill out, and it gets played along side Kings of Convenience (brilliant), Andy Knox (on [...] Damien Rice, Stina Nordenstam (what do mean, you have never heard of her?), Suzanne Vega and Bjork (at a push).

Summary - I Love it. If you are into melodic female vocalists and excellent acoustic Guitar accompaniment - You might just love it too!!

What you get here is a sweet girly voice singing pleasant little ditties, and its all so nice and inoffensive, but does this music really engage? However good she might sound when performing live is quite irrelevant - this is a studio recorded album being reviewed here. Music for a quiet mood for sure, and all rather pleasant it is, but where is this singer going with this? Judging by reviews of her other work, nowhere at all, and this album does not leave me wanting to hear more of the same. This album is nice, its pleasant....but it takes me nowhere at all. Quite like it though, so I guess it must rather grudgingly be awarded 4 stars.

This is a lovely gentle album. It is not over cluttered with too much production, but I agree with an earlier comment that Kate's voice is a little too far back in the mix. This makes it a little difficult to hear all of the lyrics, but it never to the point of destroying the enjoyment. It would however have been made easier if a lyric sheet had been included with the album. I think that she is a great new talent who I saw at the Albert Hall with just one person on Cello in support and it was a wonderful evening where her voice was allowed to sing clear. I have bought the other two albums she has released and I must admit that Tim's House is still my favourite. See if you agree with me?

Kate Walsh has a beautiful clear voice and her songs are simple but effective.

Definitely an album to put on when your in a reflective mood.
