4.0 out of 5 stars A childhood favourite 26 Feb 2013

'Around The World With Timon and Pumbaa' (1996) was one of three videos released containing six episodes of the hilarious 'The Lion King' TV spinoff 'Timon and Pumbaa'. I loved it as a kid and I love it now. It was great to see that it is now out on DVD.

This one is slightly different to the other two as it contains new animation exclusive for this release. The story tells of Pumbaa getting struck down by lightning and losing his memory as a result. It's now up-to Timon to help him by recalling special moments they spent together. This is told through the following six episodes:

Boara Boara
Yukon Con
Saskatchewan Catch
Song: Stand by Me
Brazil Nuts
Truth or Zaire
Never Everglades

The show is far more comic than the films (which of course are far superior) and are great fun. As good as these episodes are, the problem is that none of them really stand out as the 'best' of the series. The real gems like 'Congo On Like This' (with Simba) and 'Jamaica Mistake' have yet to be released on DVD (as well the 'Rafiki's Fables' and 'Laughing Hyenas' episodes) but until Disney does commercially release them on DVD (which will probably be never but they are on YouTube), this will do very nicely until then.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok I guess! 2 Jan 2012

Don't be fooled into thinking this is anything like the Lion King movies it comes from, it's a very cheap and very basic spin-off on the Lion King movies, such a shame as it looked like it could be lots of fun. Would suit VERY young kids but that's about it!

It's like reliving childhood whenever I watch one of these. It's a cute series with two lovely characters and memorable stories. A great watch for young and old alike.
