Timex Company Background

Timex History: During World War I, the US Army asked Timex to re-tool the Yankee pocket watch into a convenient new "wristwatch" for soldiers. In 1933, Timex produced the very first Mickey Mouse Clocks and watches, under an exclusive license from Walt Disney. Within just a few years, the company sold two million of these watches. In the 1950s came the introduction of the world's first inexpensive but reliable watch. Torture-test advertising campaigns promoted Timex watches with the tag-line: "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking."

Ever since watches moved from the pocket to the wrist, Timex has defined how the world tells time. For over 150 years, Timex has led the way providing affordable cutting-edge technology in trendsetting styles. For Timex, time began in 1854. Over the many years that followed, through wartime and peacetime, Timex watches have kept more than time: they've kept a promise of undaunted innovation.

Brand History

  • In 1986 Timex introduced the "Ironman Triathlon watch" that revolutionised sports timing with features and durability that were an instant hit with the dedicated athletes that inspired it. One of the most important ever introductions by Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Invented by Timex in 1992, the Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the watch dial with a blue backlight, using Timex's unique leading electroluminescent technology.

  • Modern Day: Timex remain one of the only watchmakers in the world to manufacture all of their own movements. Timex Originals: paying homage to over 150 years of Timex heritage, the Timex Originals collection is inspired by vintage designs through-out the decades, brought up-to-date with a modern twist. Timex is proud to be the official timing sponsor of some of the greatest marathons in the world--New York, London and Berlin.

  • In 2011, Timex introduced the Timex Intelligence Quartz collection. Based on state of the art technology that is an open-ended platform with the flexibility to incorporate new technologies, new functions and new ideas as they become available, Intelligence Quartz is a design and technology platform targeted primarily to the male consumer seeking a sophisticated yet technology driven timepiece.

I was looking for a watch primarily for sailing but which could also be used in the gym or when out jogging. I had seen the previous favourable reviews for this watch and the overall opinion that it was a bargain at the price. The watch seemed to have all the features I required; large display, countdown facility for sailing races and it was waterproof. Be clear, this is not a diving watch. I ordered it and I have to say it looks much better than the photo. Its a big watch and the black/gold finish looks great. The display is excellent and very easy to read; the functions work perfectly and its nice having two time zones for when you are on holiday. I can't say how reliable the watch will be in the long run, but I used it on a recent beach activity holiday (lots of water and sand) and the watch is working fine. I have to agree that at this price, the watch is a bargain.

I've recently been ill and I'm trying to get my stamina back. So getting out and cycling for a few hours, playing tennis for 10 minutes a day etc is my thing just now. I use the watch to time how long I've been going for so not to tire myself out.

Now this watch is a really good watch for this purpose! It features an alarm, a timer and a count down feature, making it ideal.

Great watch for £25. Plus everyone says to me that its a nice looking watch.

You have to set the countdown timer after every single period, so if you do a series of exercises that last for say 90 seconds, you have to stop after each 90 second period and reset the countdown timer. Very frustrating. You can get watches than run continuously, an alarm goes off at the end of whatever period you set and then, if you don't stop it, start counting down again which is obviously far better if you don't want to pause between exercises.
However that aside, it's got a nice big face which is easy to read and it was simple to set up, so would be a good buy if you didn't care about the countdown timer.

I didn't think you could get a decent branded watch with lots of features for around £20. This one, however, is a gem of a watch. The instructions for use are so simple, I had all the initial functions operating correctly in about 10 minutes. I like the crisp lines of the watch as well as the big and bold face. Everything on the watch is so easy to read, without it feeling like a little boy's watch.

I especially like the day, date, month visuals so you know what day it is etc. In typical US fashion, however, they've got the day and month the other way round - watch out or they will be correcting our English spelling next. Oh, they do that already.

Anyway... It's a large faced watch but not overstated. Comfortable and very practical.

For £21, it's a very decent bye.

Simply a great product and very keenly priced making it good value. Just the right amount of functions, dispensing with those you would probably never use. The display is bright, clear and large enough to read whilst running which is important to me. Very comfortable to wear. Would I recommend it? Yes I would. Would I replace it with a similar Timex product in the future? Yes I would.

Was very impressed with the quality of this watch upon opening the box.
Watch is big & chunky & certainly looks more expensive than the £21 that I paid for it.
Functions include stopwatch, countdown timer, dual time, alarm, hourly chime & the great indiglo light function.
If you're looking for a cheapish multifunction sports watch, I would definitely go for this one !
