Timex Company Background

Timex History: During World War I, the US Army asked Timex to re-tool the Yankee pocket watch into a convenient new "wristwatch" for soldiers. In 1933, Timex produced the very first Mickey Mouse Clocks and watches, under an exclusive license from Walt Disney. Within just a few years, the company sold two million of these watches. In the 1950s came the introduction of the world's first inexpensive but reliable watch. Torture-test advertising campaigns promoted Timex watches with the tag-line: "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking."

Ever since watches moved from the pocket to the wrist, Timex has defined how the world tells time. For over 150 years, Timex has led the way providing affordable cutting-edge technology in trendsetting styles. For Timex, time began in 1854. Over the many years that followed, through wartime and peacetime, Timex watches have kept more than time: they've kept a promise of undaunted innovation.

Brand History

  • In 1986 Timex introduced the "Ironman Triathlon watch" that revolutionised sports timing with features and durability that were an instant hit with the dedicated athletes that inspired it. One of the most important ever introductions by Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Invented by Timex in 1992, the Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the watch dial with a blue backlight, using Timex's unique leading electroluminescent technology.

  • Modern Day: Timex remain one of the only watchmakers in the world to manufacture all of their own movements. Timex Originals: paying homage to over 150 years of Timex heritage, the Timex Originals collection is inspired by vintage designs through-out the decades, brought up-to-date with a modern twist. Timex is proud to be the official timing sponsor of some of the greatest marathons in the world--New York, London and Berlin.

  • In 2011, Timex introduced the Timex Intelligence Quartz collection. Based on state of the art technology that is an open-ended platform with the flexibility to incorporate new technologies, new functions and new ideas as they become available, Intelligence Quartz is a design and technology platform targeted primarily to the male consumer seeking a sophisticated yet technology driven timepiece.

I am starting to build a bit of a collection of sports watches, having acquired a Tag, and a Citizen. Thus is the latest addition, offering great looks, interesting features and prettty good value for money. It is good to see an old traditional make like Timex keeping up with the times.

The watch was easy to get going, and set to the right date and time. It came with a very pomprehensive user manual, which confusingly covers all the features of the range. Still not convinced I have calibrated the built-in compass, but the stop-watch feature seems to work OK, and the date changes at midnight, as expected. Keeps good time too.

Is my version of the watch leap-year aware ? Will the battery really last five or six years ? Do I really have to send back to Timex to get the battery changed, and the built-in features which are not user accessible reset ? My investgations continue ....

does everything it says..........very pleased. Also looks great when on wrist and compass easy to use. Instruction Booklet not easy to understand unless you go slowly and re-read portions several times..

I returend this watch to Amazon three times as always there was something wrong with it. Fourth time I sent it to TIMEX directly for service and in two days I got the watch back...but two days after it stopped working again. I liked the watch very much, otherwise I would request refund and not new watch but this is just not possible that watch with such a tradition would not be functioning as new one???I am still wating for TIMEX to send it back to me....

Generally a nice solid chunky watch, which tells the time and has a compass. The compass appears to be quite sensitive and not always giving the correct heading due to interference from near by objects. Unfortunately the strap needs to be longer for me, and the watch hands can be confusing, separating the clock from the compass arms when telling the time. Not too disappointed though!

Have owned this watch for over a month now, very impressed.
Build quality is excellent, keeps time very well and looks great.
Does not wear as large as you might expect, the strap is a little stiff at first but after some wear this goes away.
Would recommend this watch to anyone who is thinking of buying.

A great watch at a great price ideal for work as it is quite rugged and not too expensive should it get damaged. The watch keeps great time, is easy to read at night and is not too bulky or heavy I would recommend this watch for outdoor use its even smart enough for evening wear well done Timex.
