Region 2 import, plays in English without subtitles. 1980 film starring Trini Alvarado, Robin Johnson, and Tim Curry. The plot of the film essentially embodies a punk rock ethic - misunderstood youth forming a band and, through music, articulating their frustrations toward adult authority, personified in the film as parents, the medical establishment, and politicians. In terms of themes and plot, Times Square can be seen as a precursor to director Allan Moyle's later film Pump Up the Volume (1990).

OK - great to see this film at long last in region 2 format, but I have had strange experiences trying to play it. There are 2 languages dubbed on it - English original soundtrack and German - and while 1 TV I have (with an integrated DVD drive) plays the English language track fine (in fact it finds it by default), on another DVD player I've got, it insists on German language. It offers the option of choosing English, but when I select it, it then defaults back to the main top-menu and if I execute a "play" command from there, it keeps insisting playing in German only. I've even tried selecting German (in case there is an authoring error and they've got the language selection commands mixed up) but no joy. Thus, in summary, I've only one TV/DVD that will let me hear this in the original language. Never had this experience before with any DVD containing multiple languages - but I have with this DVD. Don't know if anyone else will run into the same technical issue with selecting the preferred soundtrack - but I thought it was worth mentioning it.
