Very poor product, 13 April 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Times Ace Monkey Pre-School Colours & Shapes (Ages 2-5) (CD-ROM)
This package contains 3 CDs, although it is not obvious why as the content is particularly shallow. Only four shapes are briefly explained on one CD, and in a very boring way. The colours are again dealt with very quickly and with little imagination. "This is the colour blue, now paint the 3 skateboards blue". Six mouse clicks later (click on the paint pot, then on an image) it's finished, but you do get the chance to print a nice certificate (one for each colour, one for each shape...). An interesting reward for completing a "lesson" is to play a short and simple "pairs game", which is the same game each time but with the colour scheme changed slightly.
The final CD has 3 items: a very bland painting program, a 2D maze and a 3D maze. The paint program is nothing special, indeed there are far better examples available for free on many children's web sites. The mazes are not very interesting yet are difficult to comprehend for small children, and the on-screen controls are next to impossible even for adults.
In summary, this is a poor product that is unsuitable for its target audience.
