Eddie Higgins - Time On My Hands 5 Feb 2002
By Bill Gallagher - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album of solo piano performances would be one of the 10 CD's I would save if the house was burning down. Higgins' play is impeccable on all tracks. There is a smoothness and elegance in his play that is, quite simply, extraordinary. The piano and acoustics that you hear in this album are equally extraordinary - you would swear you were in a cathedral. Eddie's skills have been honed for over 50 years as a performer and what you are hearing now is perfection.

One of the finest solo jazz recordings 16 Sep 2003
By Jazz Pianist - Published on Amazon.com

One of the very best solo piano CD's--ever, truly. With amazing clarity, Eddie recorded this masterpiece on a 9 foot Baldwin SD-10, and the music is virtually perfect. Playing uplifting, mostly relaxing, gorgeous renditions of standards and lesser known treasures, the tunes unfold naturally, beautifully, seemingly effortlessly, and with wonderful sophistication under his hands. It's tough to pick highlights here, though I find his version of Stairway to the Stars to be especially remarkable, with the glorious textures, colors and chording Mr. H employs. This disc is a sumptuous and satisfying 14 course meal here--great great stuff.
"THE GREAT SOLO PIANO MASTER CLASS !" 7 Jan 2011
By Dan Celli,X,DJ.Cartoonist/Author - Published on Amazon.com

Great tunes. Higgins say's;"You can't hide... When playing solo piano. He uses the ENTIRE piano;Octaves,Tremolo's,Arpeggios, walking Bass notes,
full Chords,Stride, Sustain peddle, glissandi ETC. His improvisation variations are close to the theme structure. Over 50 years of Jazz piano experience.
He's gone now, but,has a great Jazz piano legacy. His Wife,Meredith D' Ambrosio
is the talented Singer,Pianist,Painter (She did the Edward Hopper type painting of Her Husband on the cover.). Higgins and Mariam Mc Partland have a similar approach to a Ballad, to the point if someone told you Mc P is playing, you wouldn't question it.
This CD will be at the top of my Huge Jazz Piano collection. What a find ! The ARBORS + MAYBECK Jazz Piano series is great for us SOLO JAZZ PIANO FANS. CD time;69:35. There's a nice booklet that comes with the CD which includes a picture of the couple in their kitchen. P.S. Check Youtube, to see him in action with his trio.
Some Great Piano Playing 6 Dec 2008

Time on My Hands: Arbors Piano Series, Vol. 6

Most of Eddie Higgins previous CDs have been on very expensive Japanese issues. This piano programme is on the Arbors Piano Series an issue on an American Label which is much more sensibly priced. The programme is varied
with a broad range of songs. The session is beautifully recorded on a first class instrument.I found the CD very enjoyable and I have listened to it twice already. It is certainly one to add to your collection.
Time on my Hands 13 Nov 2009

I had never heard of Eddie Higgins until I accidently found him on You Tube.As an avid fan of many types of piano style inc Dr John, Alan Toussaint, Chuck Leavell, etc etc, his was different. Now the album is a firm favourite. Eddie has wonderful technique and style. His interpretations of jazz standards are refreshing and an eclectic mix of styles within a piece abound.I look forward to his next solo album.
