I have noted the high price of branded watch winders on the market today and thought I would forgo expensive fancy wood boxes for an inexpensive plastic device in the interests of economy.
I have used one of theses dual winders for some 18 months or so now, and I have experienced a recurring problem. I noticed that after some time in use the machine developed play on the watch holder, disceranble only when in operation. Sometimes it makes a quiet knocking sound as the head moves slightly downward in it's socket whilst rotating. Careful installation of the holder never succeeded in eliminating this.
It remained a minor irritation until recently when on several separate occasions to date a watch holder has worked loose. The holder and the watch fitted to it has actually fallen completely out of the machine and onto the floor. On the last occurance it actually woke me as it fell out in the small hours.
The watch concerned requires professional attention as a result.
I have no confidence in the winder anymore and do not trust it not to damage my treasured watches. I conclude that my money would have been better spent on a better quality winder.
It seems you get what you pay for and quality remains long after the price is forgotten as a certain Mr Royce once said.
