Visiting relatives down south recently we stumbled on a delightful bookshop "The Emporium". Browsing through the books my children (7 and 4) were instantly drawn to "Time Travelling Toby and the Battle of Britain" written by fledgling author Graham Jones and beautifully illustrated by Neil Parkinson, the book literally jumped off the shelf.
My children had in fact decided on their purchases before seeing this book but actually put them back to buy this book.
"Time Travelling Toby and the Battle of Britain" is superbly entertaining, educational fun book based on the fictional character of Toby and his brothers who have a secret Back to the Future style car. Their adventure, (hopefully the first of many) takes Toby and his brothers back to help the allies and win the Battle of Britain.
It's very cleverly written in rhyme whilst actually having an engaging story to tell. It also beautifully illustrated and really has a quality feel to it on a par with books produced by some of the major publishing houses.
It is ideal bedtime reading as well as a book any older children can pick up and enjoy by themselves. Older boys will especially love the double page blueprint of the car, an awesome touch!!
My children love the book so much they now role play with it, each taking it turns to be Time Travelling Toby.
The end of the book points to a future adventure with Lord Nelson, we can't wait!

I can't recommend this book high enough, a MUST for every child's Christmas stocking!!

Time Travelling Toby is a beautifully illustrated childrens adventure story.

My grandaughter aged 7 loved the colourful pictures and kept going back to find something different each time. It also made her ask questions about the Battle of Britain, always a good way to teach history to young children.

My grandson aged 4 especially liked the plans of the time machine and his mum thought the explanations of the words in the back of the book a very good idea.

Time Travelling Toby And The Battle Of Britain has got to be one of the best books of the year!

Its educational but still fun! It teaches children about the Battle of Britain but has the fun aspect too. Its found a perfect balance so that children can really enjoy the story and feel involved with what Toby and his brothers are doing.

**Highly Recommended**

My six year old son and I have just finished rereading this terrific book for the nth time as he can't get enough of it. His grandparents bought it for him recently and also know it backwards ! The illustrations are great too so he finds much of it really enjoyable to read by himself - whilst the slightly more technical stuff at the back is educational. Bring on the next adventure !

What a find! A book for young readers that combines the fantasy adventure of time travel with the history of the Battle or Britain...and does it like no other book I've seen. Wonderfully illustrated, the pictures leap off the page and bring the story to life. I particularly like the way Graham Jones has worked in an important part of our history into a thrilling tale. Well done!
