Looking through my record collection a while ago, I came across this album on tape. I thought I couldn't justify having what was probably one of the best albums by a female vocalist in the 80s on tape alone, so I decided to buy the CD.
Basia has an incredible voice, perfect pitch and range, and a very attractive Polish accent to boot. Not only this, the lyrics on this album are excellent, bearing in mind English is not Basia's native language. She has a real gift for story telling, and a real gift for finding the right melody or vocal expression at exactly the right moment. The musicianship is truly outstanding; incredible use of rhythm and brass, which always captures the moment. It's a truly great pop-dance-jazz album. There are some outstanding tracks; 'Run for Cover', 'Time and Tide' and 'New Day for You' are my favourites, which for me capture a time in my mid teens when Basia, among others, played on the soundtrack. Sixteen years later I'm still listening to her.
