A pensive look crossed Trisha's face as she stared down on the Memorial where over two thousand men were entombed. She watched mesmerized as drop by drop of oil seeped to the surface from the watery grave below, perpetuating a minor oil slick that began its odyssey over fifty years before. Brushing aside a tear, Trisha looked away.
In the distance the sparodic belching of Mauna Loa and Kilauea against the mountain ranges and lush-green vegetation captivated her. As long as "Pele's" anger is contained we have nothing to worry about. She smiled inwardly as the inter-island plane flew over the various islands in the Hawaiin chain, bringing her closer to Maui and home.
The small plane approached the landing field at Maui. Trisha saw her father waiting patiently for her arrival. She waved furiously at him. When her plane's wheels touched down, an anxious Joe Holden rushed towards it. He hugged, kissed his daughter, then grabbed her bag. With his arm tightly around her shoulders he guided her back toward his waiting Jeep. Soon Trisha and her father were tooling their way along the lonely mountain road. Enchanted by the unobstructed, beautiful scenery, they headed toward their pineapple plantation in the foothills of the West Maui Mountains.
Trisha quietly inhaled the majesty around them. "I don't know what it is, but every time I come home I feel as if the "gods" have finally allowed me to return to Paradise."
