A very useful guide,

I'm rather surprised by the lukewarm reviews this book has received by others, but everyone to their own. I bought it's predecessor and found it excellent, particularly the restaurant reviews, which always seemed spot on. I'd purchased a competitors book also, but found that very out of date and visually drab by comparison, so when a revised version of this book came out, I bought it straight away. I can't say that I've used it in anger yet, as my trip to Mallorca isn't for another couple of weeks (Aug 10) so the proof will be in the reading I guess (however I was gratified to find a restaurant which wasn't mentioned in the earlier release, which we visited two years ago and found excellent, IS mentioned in glowing terms in the revised edition, so that's a big positive in my opinion. I personally like the layout and format of the book, it's on a region by region basis. I find that suits me as I want to get the low down on what's available in the area I'm visiting and I can ignore the good, bad and middling at the other end of the island as I'm not going there and I can blank that section of the book. If however you wanted an overview of the island in total, it might be better to have all of the nightlife in one section, all of the shopping in another etc. Anyway, if you are going to Mallorca, and want a good guide for all that's on offer, I personally feel that this book fits the bill.

Very disappointed in this guide. Info not in clear format, not enough detail, barely mentions some major places and the menorca section (while I appreciate it may have had a slightly smaller section) was just so short and absolutely dire.This book may be useful for mallorca if you can bear the format, but for Menorca, I'd make a different purchase.

A great book to take away with you on holiday as it is very informative but compact enough to pack in you hand luggage.
