I love this book! I absolutely love it, although the key to these sorts of guides is "take it with a pich of salt", that is read the descriptions of the areas, see what it has to offer but then leg it there and have a look by yourself.
Info on schools, council tax, local stats, restaurants and parks etc are included, but this book is generally great for getting a feeling and a bit of history of the area.
I found it quite thruthful.
New edition has added more places (such as Kingston on Thames) but I admit it is still not a complete bible...

This book is a great idea and certainly very useful. However the challenge for the writers must have been to create something to cover all areas but at the same time balancing this with including lots of detail. The result is, I think, that there is usually nothing more than a superficial insight for each area.

Very useful if you want to have an overview of many different parts of the city but if you're only really concerned about one of them then you'll end up only using a very small part of the whole thing.

As the book's subtitle states, this is a "handbook to living in the city" so it's essentially a book for London residents.

If you're looking for information on the make-up of each borough, housing stock, schools, crime figures and details of local MPs, together with an extensive listing of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, cinemas and theatres, look no further.

If, on the other hand, you're looking for a guide book for a break in London, you may find one of the multitude of other guides (Lonely Planet, for example) more useful!

Why only four stars? The book seems so have gone for the quantity rather than quality approach, so while there's an overwhelming list of (for example) restaurants, there's little in the way of recommendations and reviews
