Book Description

3 July 2008 Time Out Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, the cultural highlight on many trips to South America, is changing like never before. Every week new boutique hotels, restaurants, secret bars, art galleries and designer shops open in a blur of champagne and cocktails.

The terraces of football stadiums heave with passionate fanatics of world-class teams such as Boca Juniors, while in the dimly lit halls of the city's old quarter, couples, in sensual embrace, dance the tango. Visitors to this city can participate in every aspect of Buenos Aires. It is a thrilling place, full of the unexpected, and occasionally bewildering. And over the last eight years, Time Out Buenos Aires has become a favourite for visitors looking for the most up-to-date information, the latest cultural trends and insightful investigations written by journalists who live this city everyday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Allow time for trips out of the city... 24 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent guide book. I've taken my copy to Buenos Aires with me three times and on each occasion it has proved invaluable. All the usual stuff you'd expect in a Time Out guide is there; a concise history of the city, sightseeing guide, bar, restaurant and club recommendations and a comprehensive guide to each of the main barrios.

Where this guide book has really come into its own though, for me at least, is in the "Trips Out of Town" section. Buenos Aires is a hot, dusty mega-city and sometimes you just have to get away - particularly in Summer.

Time Out Buenos Aires is packed with suggestions for a few hours, or a few days, away from the city. Under various headings: "River", "Country", "Beach" or "City" the guide provides clear, concise write-ups on your options. Suggestions range from spending a day on the river at Tigre or riding with the gauchos near San Antonio de Areco, to longer jaunts to places such as the beach at Mar del Plata, the breathtaking Iguazu Falls or even over to Uruguay for a weekend with the jet-set in Punta del Este or a more relaxing time in Colonia del Sacramento.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great timeout guide 7 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
These guides are incredibly informative, not just where the museums and galleries are, but for finding areas for meandering, popping into bars and watching the world go by. I love the maps which have restaurants, bars and hotels on them. The guide really gives you the flavours of the place not just facts

5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to Buenos Aires 5 Oct 2010
By DSK
Format:Paperback
This guide is really well written and gives a great overview of all the better restaurants, bars and clubs.

Every day we tried a different restaurant and all but one were excellent. We enjoyed everything so much that we decided to extend our stay by a few days (and the plentitude of places to go to in this guide contributed to this choice).

The guide gave us much more than the facts and the maps. It gave us an insight into the life of the portenos.

It covers everything necessary for planning your stay in BA and around. The directions and details of travel companies given were very good. This guide usually contained more options than the other one we were carrying. Only the prices (as they are given in pesos) were outdated.

I was very happy with this guide, probably the best-written one during my trip in South America.
