I don't have much time at present to elaborate on this album nearly as much as it's greatness warrants, so let me start right away. Vinnie Moore has improved his skill and smoothness since Mind's Eye, despite the latter being a masterful showcase of guitar wizardry, and he has adopted a more sentimental and sensitive approach. The production is one of the best that I have encountered from as early a date as 1988, giving Moore his chance to prove to the world his flawless guitar technique. All of the songs are well structured, with quite a number of slow/sentimental addition to the album, but also many higher paced neo-classical pieces. This album is better than I expected and if you are a guitarist, regardless of your favourite genres of guitar, this album is for you. This is Vinnie Moore at his best, (just like any of his other albums).

To me this album is guitar perfection. The clarity and virtuosity of the playing is second to none. The compositions are tasteful and not just pure fretboard melting. The guitar tones are varied, unlike a lot of the genre.

Of the 10 tracks on the album I would say that 8 are outstanding, and the other 2 aren't exactly bad! Race with Destiny and Pieces of a Picture are probably the highlights, but April Sky and While my guitar gently weeps come close.

If you have to have one guitar instrumental album get this one. Beats anything by Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen etc. For your second album get Defying Gravity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Technically And Melodically Flawless 2 Oct 2013
Format:Audio CD
This album is a towering colossus of guitar playing. Some people cite Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn or Yngwie's Rising Force, maybe Steve Vai's Passion And Warfare, as the best guitar instrumental album ever released.......but for me this easily eclipses all of them. The smoothness and clarity of all the lead work sounds like it's too precise to be real!!! The melodies and song structures and of course the mind-blowing solos sound like they are played by a computer. Vinnie's debut Mind's Eye which preceded Time Odyssey showed similar skills (actually a bit heavier and more intense) and to be honest it was really too good to follow, for a mere mortal! But like Pink Floyd managed to follow The Dark Side Of The Moon with the superior Wish You Were Here, despite no-one believing it possible, Vinnie produced this masterpiece. At what age, 21 or so? I haven't played it for a while so excuse me while I go and listen to it for the umpteen hundredth time...........

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT BAD, BUT... 7 Jan 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Well, actually 3 and a half stars (maybe 4 because he's such a talented musician). I usually judge a good album on how many 'outstanding' tracks there are on it. You know- the sort of ones that you just want to keep rewinding and playing back. This album has, for me, only one- 'Prelude/Into the Future', which shows off Vinnie's shred talent to it's best. So, I guess you could say that it's not one of Moore's better albums (although none of his work is 'substandard'), with most of the songs being of a more 'sentimental' nature. If you're new to Vinnie Moore, I'd recommend starting with 'Mind's Eye' or 'The Maze', both of which have at least 3 very good tracks on them, and are more typical of his best work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Yngwie look like a ham fisted amateur... 10 Jan 2007
Format:Audio CD
It's not enough that this guy is one of the most dextrous and disciplined guitarists to have ever graced this humble planet...he's also one of the most melodically inclined too. This is one of the most musically complete, technically stunning guitar albums out there. Ironically, the only one that is better, is Mr Moore's first, Mind's Eye.

One of the guitar's most eloquent ambassadors. Arguably THE most talented.
