Among the group of currently popular smaller format books of meditations, this offering by grief consultant, lecturer and author Carol Staudacher deserves notice. Divided into three sections--Retreating, Working Through, and Resolving--A Time To Grieve encourages the reader to pick a page that speaks to one in the present moment. Using the by now familiar form of the basic "theme of the day," followed by an appropriate quotation, followed by Staudacher's own thoughts on the topic, the meditations address the often felt but seldom admitted struggles of the bereaved. But it is the author's level of understanding and lack of sentimentality that brings the greatest strength to this work intended to companion one who grieves.
