Vinni has produced another captivating blend of his trade-mark ethereal sounds, beautifully simple vocals and sublime guitar . Guitar throughout the album is as usual fluid dynamic evolving and involving while lyrics are typically simple yet effective both aurally and emotionally. Vinni sings low key flattish pieces while the female vocalist produces fully fledged soaring pop performances of folk-like songs penned by Reilly. Finely managed percussion holds everything into place in a breathtaking journey you will find you need to take again and again. This is pure class and well worth the high price you will need to pay when you find a copy for sale.

You never know what you're going to get with The Durutti Column - and that's a major part of the appeal of this most singular of bands. I'd rate 'The Guitar & Other Machines,' 'Vini Reilly,' 'Sex & Death,' 'Someone Else's Party,' 'Idiot Savants' and this, 'Time Was Gigantic...' as their best albums. Any one of those will act as a great introduction to the talents of Vini Reilly, Bruce Mitchell and their various collaborators. With most of the other albums there is the odd pearl of a track hidden amongst some average (but still enjoyable) doodling. The high price a copy of this particular gem commands made me tempted to part with my own original CD, but nah, I'm going to hang on to it. 'For Rachel' is the standout track and showcases all of the band's various strengths; in particular, Vini's unique & amazing guitar playing and their inspired use of samples.
