Released to commemorate signing to their new record Eleven Seven Music, 'Time For Annihilation' demonstrates a band knowing how to earn kudos with their fanbase. Furthermore, this would appear to be a subtle middle finger to their former record label Geffen Records who recently released a greatest hits against the band's wishes. This album comprises of new and old material featuring 5 new songs and 9 recorded live songs from their back catalogue. Firstly the new songs excel in quality and place the band in an exciting direction. Gang vocals on lead single 'Kick In The Teeth' will be a welcomed addition to the setlist for future gigs to come. The band tread on soft rock territory with 'No Matter What' but shows their versatility in their songwriting abilities. However, long term fans are more likely to be interested in the latter half of the album - the live output which doesn't disappoint. Here the band sound fresh and vitalised playing with conviction and passion. Highlights include the guitar on 'To Be Loved' sounds venomous giving the song that extra bite, Monsieur Shaddix's soaring yet emotional vocals on 'Scars' strikes and 'Last Resort' makes you wish you were in the mosh pit. This leads me to say that whilst these former 'nu-metal darlings' are unlikely to receive the critical acclaim for their studio output, one thing that cannot be denied are their phenomenal live shows (as witnessed by your humbled reviewer). My only criticisms of this opus is the omission of live material from the underrated 'Lovehatetradegy' and the accompanying DVD (which I did not opt for) to be a live gig recording rather than a 'Making Of'. Still for the price I paid, I can't complain and shall look forward to embracing every moment when they play on the forthcoming 'Taste Of Chaos' tour (as headlined by Disturbed) in December.
