During their initial 14 years of existence (1973-1987), Journey altered their musical approach and their personnel extensively while becoming a top touring and recording band. The only constant factor was guitarist Neal Schon (born February 27, 1954), a music prodigy who had been a member of Santana in 1971-1972. The original unit, which was named in a contest on ... 5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant soft rock 7 Dec 2005
Format:Audio CD
I've had this box set for a few years now and I have to say that it is one of the best things I have ever bought. I first got into Journey when I bought their Escape and Raised On Radio albums which were brilliant but then I decided to splash out on this. I was not disappointed!!!!
Cd one is the weakest of the three here as it contains many of the bands early recordings when they were more of a jazz rock type band but there are some stand out tracks such as Anyway You Want It and the brilliant Patiently.
Cd two is where it really takes off. There are half a dozen live tracks here from the album Captured which are superb and the CD finishes with 7 tracks from Escape which are all brilliant even though now they are nearly 25 years old.
CD three continues with more excellent material my favourites being Seperate Worlds and the gorgeous After The Fall.
If you are new to Journey or replacing your old LPs this is very highly recommended. It also contains a detailed band history and features arguably there greatest frontman Steve Perry.
Buy it now!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply my favorite Boxed-Set by ANY band... 18 Jan 2001
By Jeff Edwards - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I have been working in radio now for well over 10 years, and over that time I have been able to accumulate more than the average number of boxed-set's by all kinds of bands...and by a long shot, Journey's 'Time Cubed' is far and away the best of the lot. If you find yourself looking for that purchase that will give you not just many hours of listening enjoyment, but YEARS and YEARS of it, run, do NOT walk to your nearest record store and pick this one up ASAP.
You've got in a nutshell pretty much everything that made Journey one of the greatest bands of the 80's. From their early years to a point where you can clearly tell when the Journey wheel hit the pavement and they literally erupted on the music scene--a place they came to dominate for many years. Take a listen to 'Just The Same Way', and early version of 'Anytime' (I have to say I am glad they never released it), 'Party's Over, The', to their later masterpieces like 'After The Fall' and 'Be Good To Yourself' not to mention a couple of live version of 'Girl Can't Help It' and 'I'll Be Alright Without You'--there just isn't an area where this album suffers. I ran through my memory, and I couldn't find a single song that deserved to be included over the choices already there--no a LOT went into this collection, and it shows. Now I realize this album runs near $40.00, but TRUST me when I tell you it is worth each & every penny (although I got mine for free...). Fantastic stuff from a Superior band. HIGHLY Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take a sentimental Journey 16 May 2001
By Todd Orth - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a fantastic box set from one of the premier rock bands of the late 1970's and 1980's. From top to bottom, this set gives a wide choice of selections from the early days through the stadium live versions from the "Captured" album to the sentimental radio hits from "Escape" and beyond.
So why do I rate "Time^3" four stars instead of five? Well, I would have rather had the studio versions released in this box set rather than the live versions. The trend of putting live versions and b-sides on multi-dic sets dilutes what would be an otherwise superior compilation.
Not to fret though. This set is a perfect companion for those who already have the studio versions from Journey's "Greatest Hits" CD. That is four CD's with just about everything a fan could want.

5.0 out of 5 stars a pleasure for journey fans 7 Feb 2000
By Charlie Harris - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I started to listen to journey when I was in the fifth grade and "escape" came out. It blew me away. Then I started collecting the earlier albums.
This collection has pretty much every one of my most loved songs. One thing though, is that they include too many of the most familiar songs for a hardcore fans taste. I mean, most hardcore fans already own several of the major cds - certainly "Escape" and dont need it repeated. But I was excited to buy the collection because it included three songs which appeared in movies (only the young, ask the lonely, and "only solutions") which did not appear on any other journey albums. I really like those songs and did not have them on cd. I was surprised to learn from the book that comes with the set that "only the young" and "ask the lonely" were originally slated to be released on FRONTIERS but were pulled off at the last minute. That album would have been a blockbuster with those tracks !
I like the first disc alot, although many will probably not find the pre-Steve Journey brand of music appealing. The song "velvet curtain" is part of an alternate version of "feeling that way", which is my favorite song from INFINITY. It sounds pretty cool - too bad it gets cut off after about a minute and a half. Oh another cool thing on disc one is a track "little girl" from the soundtrack to a japanese film called "dream after dream" for which the band wrote a symphonic rock score with the help of Neil Schon's father. The track is neat ! I love it.
Disc two contains a number of tracks from the live album "Captured" and the B-side of the single "dont stop believing", called "natural thing." That song has a really catchy chorus - cool !
Disc three has a song called "liberty" which might be pretty cool but it has this weird echo effect and the sonics are really dirty. It also has a song with Jonathan Cain doing the lead vocals.
The album comes attractively packaged with a book that provides alot of information about the band and the tracks on the cds and a lot of pictures.
Basically I enjoy this collection because I am a big journey fan, although I would have preferred more alternate tracks and more stuff from the early period. Also I have some small quibbles with the song selection, and the sonics seemed kind of muddy in places. But the music just makes me feel good and reminds me of the days of youth. It comforts me when I feel down and you cant put a price tag on that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Journey Experience 8 Mar 2004
By Kathleen Schachte - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Journey is my favorite band. My wife bought me this a few years ago for Christmas. It was wonderful. It had almost all the best songs, plus a few hidden treasures. I was delighted to find "Only Solutions" (from the TRON soundtrack) on the list. I had been looking for that one for many years. It also had other gems like "Raza del Sol", which I had never heard before. And it has a few choice cuts from the pre-Steve Perry days that I had never paid much attention to before, and didn't realize how much I enjoyed.
Three disks and no filler. It's all prime. It makes me wish the rating system was from 0-100, because this would get the 100. You can put these in your CD carousell and play them for weeks without getting tired of hearing them.
If you know someone who loves Journey, this is an awesome gift. Believe me. This flat-out blows away their greatest hits album. If you don't know Journey and would like to, look no further. And if you feel the need to buy even more albums because of it, may I suggest Infinity, Departure, and Escape? Those were made during the peak years. And if you find yourself absolutely compelled to buy all things Journey - well these things happen sometimes to the best of us. Who am I to judge you?
Overall, this is tied for my favorite box set ever. Even if you own all the other Journey albums like I do, you desperately need this box set.
It's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Journey Compilation 2 Jun 2001
By Andrew L. Dean - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This set contains what Journey was in the early days as well as what influenced each member of the group and then what many of us remember Journey as. From the early fusion days to the live versions of "Girl Can't Help It" and "I'll Be Alright Without You" It is the ultimate Journey collection for anyone who is a fan or for anyone who isn't but just likes the music. This is a must and of all the boxsets I have, this is the one that gets played the most. For the Steve Perry fans, you can see how when Steve came into the group, the influence he has on the direction of the band at that time. You can't even get tired of hearing the songs and Neal Schon's guitar playing. This is a must have for any music fan!!!
