Format:Hardcover
As an adult I find the standard of Harry Hill's humour variable: he can be both hilarious or slightly tedious in equal measure.

However I picked-up this beautifully illustrated (by Harry himself) book aimed at the child in us all and was totally charmed by it.

Tim is a tiny (really tiny!) horse who lives in a matchbox and has a fly (called 'Fly') as a friend. He updates his list of 'likes' and 'dislikes' throughout the book and it's very funny when his friend Fly gets himself a girlfriend who subsequently prevents him from playing with Tim. Fly's girlfriend thus finds herself in Tim's 'dislikes' list!

Note it is a 'dislikes' and not a 'hates' list, for Tim is a jolly little chap who optimistically tries to see good in everything.

Harry's book features several of his adventures - each lasting a few pages each. And while the book may only take a half hour to read it's a lovely little package - and would be cheap at twice the price.

There are life lessons in here and a moral thread runs through all the stories - thus we feel Tim's shame when he remembers the time he ate a grape off a supermarket floor without paying for it. It's therefore a great book for young children - although a previous reviewer notes that a few cultural references may be lost on them.

One final warning - be prepared to have a hanky ready for the final tale which finds Tim on his own at Xmas until an unexpected arrival cheers him up.

I normally read quite a lot of highbrow stuff, but found 'Tim the Tiny Horse' to be one of the most touching books I've read in years: the appeal is universal and a sentimental adult will enjoy this as much as the younger reader.

Put it on your Xmas Wish List. And Harry, thanks for this perfect set of vignettes!

This is a fantastic book. I bought it for my seven year old niece but fell in love with Tim after the first few pages and so devoured the whole thing myself. I passed it on to my hubby, who laughed so much he snorted tea through his nose. We then spent the rest of the night chortling and going over the best bits - which was everything! Reading the synopsis above, I still find myself with a warm smile.

Admittedly, this is a very short book, and at £[...] it is quite expensive. But I reckon it is a book that will be treasured and revisited often so I think it is worth it - especially at Amazon's reduced price. (I bought it on the high street and still think it was £[...] well spent).

As well as being funny and poignant, there is also a moral message at the end of each story. Tim learns to stand by his friends, that playing outside is better than browsing the internet, not to steal...

The illustrations are quirky and roughly drawn so it might not appeal to people expecting a classic illustrated children's book. However, it is very charming and I think it will appeal to most children and all silly grown-ups.

I hope to see more adventures of Tim the Tiny Horse soon.

Unusual but a real favourite
Not sure whether the appeal is the stories themselves or the idea of a high humanised, tiny horse.

Either way these stories have become a firm favourite. Read more
