Amazon.co.uk Review

Who else but Tim Burton could make Corpse Bride, a necrophiliac's delight that's fun for the whole family? Returning to the richly imaginative realm of stop-motion animation--after previous successes with The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach, Burton, with codirector Mike Johnson, invites us to visit the dour, ashen, and drearily Victorian mansions of the living, where young Victor Van Dort, voiced by Johnny Depp, is bequeathed to wed the lovely Victoria.

But the wedding rehearsal goes sour and, in the kind of Goth-eerie forest that only exists in Burton-land, Victor suddenly finds himself accidentally married to the Corpse Bride, voiced by Helena Bonham Carter, a blue-tinted, half-skeletal beauty with a loquacious maggot installed behind one prone-to-popping eyeball.

This being a Burton creation, the underworld of the dead is a lively and colorful place indeed, and Danny Elfman's songs and score make it even livelier, presenting Victor with quite a dilemma: Should he return above-ground to Victoria, or remain devoted to his corpse bride? At a brisk 76 minutes, Burton's graveyard whimsy never wears out its welcome, and the voice casting is superbly matched the film's gloriously amusing character design, guaranteed to yield a wealth of gruesome toys and action figures for many Halloweens to come. --Jeff Shannon

DVD Description

Two aristocratic families pair off their less-than-satisfied children, believing they will all be escalated into high society. Yet when clumsy Victor Van Dort (Depp) rehearses his vows in the woods, he accidentally marries the Corpse Bride(Bonham-Carter), throwing a great wrench in everyone's plans.

Tim Burton has done it again! The story of our own jubilicously lovely corpse bride :) This is a funny, romantic, sweet and just a little bir creepy adventure with a great sense of humor and wonderful songs. It is more "grown-up" when compared to Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas; Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham's voices have added so much to the characters. Make sure you buy the movie together with the soundtrack. A must-see!

Wonderful! 6 Feb 2007
Format:DVD
My six-year old daughter introduced me to this film, which she saw at a friend's house. She says it is "beautiful and sad at the same time". We have watched it together a few times now and I think she is spot on! To my mind much better than the Nightmare Before Christmas; there is a superb cast of voices as well as all the visual delights.

Necro-mungous 30 Dec 2006
Format:DVD
I'm largely a fan of Tim Burtons work, bar a couple, and having seen this for the first time recently I have to say that it's a work of art.

When I first saw Nightmare before Christmas I felt it was lacking something. Burtons reliance upon his saccharin goth formula has been tiresome in some of his recent outings. But the gnarly silhouetted backdrops and jaunty atmospheric soundtrack by Danny Elfman suited this film down to the ground, no pun intended.

The plot was slightly cutesy in places but with Burtons astonishing eye for detail and depth of scenery you soon become lost in it all.

With the Pixar animation machine taking over the world at the moment churning out throw-away plots it was refreshing to see a stop motion flick come up with something that looks as beautiful as this does.

With Burton and Depp both being staunch 'Anglo-philes' it was no surprise to see a strong British cast lending their voices to this film.

If you're a fan of Tim Burton and have yet to see this, I strongly urge you to do so because the magic he weaves in his films has never been so perfectly executed as it was in this film. One in the eye for Pixar I think.

Beautifully animated
Tim Burton's macabre and stylish imagination is really allowed to run riot in the Corpse Bride.

It's very much in the thematic vein of the earlier Nightmare before... Read more

CORPSE BRIDE was great! A musical comedy with a halloween twist. The stop-motion animation was fantastic, not as good as CORALINE but still good. Read more
