Why Do Tigers Have Stripes? introduces preschoolers to animals' amazing defense mechanisms. There are eleven different chapters showing how animals disguise, hide, warn and show off with color. Each chapter is packed full of color pictures and descriptions showing how each animal uses their colors.
In the chapter Patterns you discover why tigers have stripes and how a leopard really looks to an antelope. The Copying Colors chapter discusses how some animals survive because their colors help them look like other animals.
My 4 year-old loves flipping through this book and looking at all the pictures. We've read it so many times, he can point to each animal and tell me what their colors do for them (warn, disguise, etc.). It has been a great jumping off point to explore his interest in animals more in depth.
