The addition of the Ryder Cup means big changes for the online options, with a brand new 24 player online mode where you can recreate the whole tournament and earn your place on the online leaderboards. Or you can play offline and swap matches at any time for full control at all times.
There have been big improvements to other elements of the game too, with the first ever motion-control options for the PlayStation Move; improved graphics, including a new first person camera view; and more courses than ever, including the all-new Liberty National golf course. I used to love the Tiger Woods golf games on PS2 and this is my 1st game on PS3. For some reason i avoided these games (probably too much Call Of Duty!), but anyway.
I picked this game up second hand just to see whats what, and my goodness, was i disappointed.
Graphically the game is ok, nothing more. I was expecting to see and improvement in the golfing ambience i.e. spectators and grandstands more realistic, but no, its the same thing from the PS2 days.
The courses look quite nice in a way and the game plays fairly smoothly but i was expecting more.
The golf swing and aim is still the same from the old days, but thats a good thing as its easy to pick up and play, so that was a positive.
After this though its all downhill. There seem to be an awful lot of bugs in this game and considering its been out for time, these haven't been rectified, e.g. driving a ball into a tree and seeing it drop in heavy rough. But my next shot is clearly sitting on the fairway ??? I mean c'mon!
Then there's the XP progress. Its slow and extremely laborious.
What i liked about the older games was the fact your earned money to make your way through your career and earned sponsorship deals. This made you feel like a real golfer so the better you played, the better the equipment you got. All this has now gone. So in its place is a slow progress earning Xp or going to the PS Store and buying improvements rather than earning them.
And to me thats just a huge rip off. The game is expensive enough as it is (when new), so this just stinks of EA Sports been greedy and trying to make as much money as possible while sacrificing the enjoyment of the game.
Then we have the online play. This seems to work fine, but again uses the XP system which means you have to play so much golf to make it worthwhile.
All in all, a disaster and a game to be avoided IMO (Even second-hand).

Fun:
Yes this product is move compatable even though it doesn't mention it on the box, thats because its a patch you download, so you need to be signed in to PSN so it recognises there is an update. Then you have the fun of trying to work out how to play with the move, cos the tutorial video wouldn't play on ours. I bought this for my husbands birthday and he hates using the move with it, I think this is because he doesn't use the move very often he is not used to how it works and reacts, it took him and my daughter about 12 goes to get the ball from tee to hole at first so there was lots of moaning so I grabbed a controller and got a hole in 2! but I use the move a lot more (sports champions, singstar dance etc)The more they used it the easier it got, but he now just uses the regular controller. The problem is it wasn't made for the move so the add-on gets in the way of things and feels a bit clunky. Overall still a good game with plenty of content.

Fun:
I bought this game soon after it was released and have played it for a while before reviewing it. It is actually a very playable game and although it takes a while to get good at (especially if you have not played the previous ones), it is worth it if you can find time to play at least twice a week or so, as you can start really challenging the pros and finishing in the top 3 of some tournaments.
PROS:
The game is not too hard but is still challenging at most levels but becomes easier as you get more xp to spend upgrading your players skills.
The graphics are great.
Courses are realistic
Commentary isn't too annoying.
Mainly the good features is that EA are using the same gaming engine they have for years but this plays more like the tiger woods of 2007-8 the best years it was out for.
Competitive and entertaing play across the board.
CONS:
The system often makes you make bad shots ie into bunkers ect when you are doing well in an attempt to make the game more challenging.
There are no celebrations for good shots which is really a shame because buying the more flamboyant ones was always a really good feature.
You can earn money but have to buy all items using either xp you earn or REAL MONEY across playstation online both of which are rubbish and make it hard to upgrade your player which after a while you really need to do.
Items dont have as much affect as they use to, ie increasing power with different shafts or clubs or shirts ect.
Using playstation Move is impossible and fairly rubbish.
Overall a very addictive and thoroughly entertaining game for all golf fans, a great game to have in the cupboard for whem you get bored of everything else and discover it again as i have now... great fun but too flawed, robotic and has too much of the fun sucked out of it to warrant more than 4 stars.

Challenging
Good game, good graphics and the courses look brilliant, not an easy game either, you can play online and multiplayer, well worth the money.
