Tiger Woods 2003 PS2,
By kipperknickers (Nottingham) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 (PS2) (Video Game)
If you enjoyed TW2002 then you'll love this. As TW2002 was already pretty damn fine there isn't a huge lot of improvements. It's just that the graphics seem that bit sharper, the players that bit more realistic and the sound a bit clearer. However the main reason I should imagine people will buy it is for the new courses, with the best one being the home of golf itself, the old course at St Andrews, complete with huge greens, deep deep bunkers, the famous road hole bunker on the 17th and the Valley of Sin on the 18th, excellent stuff. It's almost worth trying to land in them to see what it's like to play them. There's also some excellent other new courses (with a ficticious Highlands course being particularly good), some new players, the addition of different types of equipment you can earn (shafts, golf balls, gloves etc) and also some new 'target' games to keep you busy. If you already have and enjoy TW2002 and you want more of the same but better, then invest in this. If you don't have TW2002 and want a good golf game then it's an essential purchase.

Best golf game ever,

This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 (PS2) (Video Game)
Quite simply the best golf game ever. The first thing that strikes you about this game is the new swing method, using the analogue stick, moving this down for you backswing, and then up for the downswing and followthrough. Though this takes time getting used to, there's a full tutorial that clearly shows you how to play. From there on you'll pick up new ways to play shots and improve your technique. In starting the game, you choose your own character and their name, and from then play in tournamets, Skins matches and matchplay competitions to gain money. This unlocks money, allowing you to improve your player's attributes such as power, accuracy, putting, etc. Extra money also unlocks new courses. From the start, the TPC at Sawgrass is available (home of the Players Championship), the world famous Pebble Beach (legend Jack Nicklaus' favourie course), Royal Birkdale, Torrey Pines and Princeville. All these courses are depicted perfectly, with every bump, ridge and hollow of these courses in the game. Win more money, and open St Andrews, Scottsdale, Poppy Hills, Spyglass Hill and others. All of these courses are either used on the PGA tour, European tour or the Majors, meaning you play some of the best and most famous courses in the world. There are also a host of fictional courses, all of which are based on a theme (eg. jungle) and are very challenging. With the huge number of options, modes, courses and players available, you'll be playing this for a long time. Like the courses, you'll unlock extra players, but by beating them in the Tiger Challenge mode. A number of tour players are in here, ranging from Tiger himself, to rookie Ty Tyron and Colin Montgomerie to Charles Howell III. All players complement their real life counterparts, with Jesper Parnevik having his trademark clothes, and Jim Furyk having the loop at the top of his backswing. You can see all sponsor logos, etc on them , and even on their clubs and golf balls. This helps create a realistic and exciting environment to play in. Though this is a great game, it is a little unrealistic in places- in the tougher tounaments, you're expected to shoot amazingly low scores, which in real life are impossible at places like Pebble Beach and Sawgrass. The Tiger Challenge mode is also close to impossible to complete, though this will keep you coming back until you beat Tiger himself at the end. But if you feel like a change, you can give speed-golf a go or play target golf in the new Skills Zone. All these modes will gain you extra money to improve your player, which leads to you upgrading your clubs and equipment as well. Using you user name, you can also create your own golf course, by putting in all your favourite 18 holes from the game, choosing its name and giving it a logo. You can also save any shots to your memory card, though there is onlt a maximum of five. However, each time you hit a land mark, such as your first hole-in-one, you'll win a Trophy Ball, and the shot saved. You can also win these for sub-par rounds, all fairways hit, etc. This also gives you money to spend on your player. In conclusion this is not only one of my favourite sport games, but also one of my favourite games ever. Definantly the best golf game ever, and I've been playing them dating back to the Mega Drive. The realism here is rivalled by very few games in any genre, and along with the huge number of options and replay value, you'll keep coming back for more. A must have game for any golf fan who owns a PS2.

Ultimate Golf Game!,

This review is from: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 (PS2) (Video Game)
I've had Tiger Woods 2003 for about 6 months now and still can't get enough. This game has everything; superb graphics, music and gameplay! I hadn't used the analog joystick method to swing the club before but found it to be very easy, requiring a lot less concentration than trying to stop a moving pointer in the 'green zone'. Having completed all the challenges and almost all the tournaments and scenarios my only disappointment was not having anything to spend my 'earnings' on!The appeal of this game will last for ages and I can't wait until TW 2004 comes out!
