Book Description

Born to a father who described him as the “chosen one” and a mother who called him the “universal child,” Tiger Woods was groomed for the fame and influence that his parents believed was his destiny. At age twenty, he made his debut in a Nike commercial. “Hello, world,” he said. “Are you ready for me?”

The world was ready.

For the next thirteen years, Tiger nearly lived up to his parents’ outsized expectations. He conquered the world of golf, settled down with a beautiful Swedish model, and started a family. His net worth approached one billion dollars. Everything was going according to plan—until the scandal hit.

Steve Helling has long covered Tiger Woods’s career, and here he draws on intimate sources— many speaking out for the first time—to create a never-before-seen portrait of the golfer.

Product Description

"Steve Helling...draws on intimate sources, many speaking out for the first time, to create a never-before-seen portrait of the golfer - not the carefully groomed handlers' image, not the media-maintained façade, but Tiger as he really is." --The Northern Echo

"Helling shows how the people closest to Tiger, an ambitious father, a fiercely protective mother and a star-struck wife, have shaped him into a singularly complex and conflicted man. At the heart of the story is Tiger himself, an insecure and socially inept adolescent thrust into the spotlight."

--National Club Golfer

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad 17 Feb. 2013

Far better than 'Unplayable: An Inside Account of Tiger's Most Tumultuous Season' but not as good as 'The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods'. Worth a read if it's the only 'Tiger' book you have.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tiger, the real story 5 Jan. 2014

My fault, assumed it was the real story of the Tiger Woods story not the affairs of TIger and his effects. The parallels with this father I feel they are unfair.

Bought for my son who is enjoying the read. He said the beginning was a bit boring but as he got into the book he's getting to know how tiger ticks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value 20 Aug. 2012
Was looking to buy "The Big Miss" but saw this at the same time for the pricely sum of 1p (plus around £1.49 p&p). £1.50 for a hardback book!!!
I thought when I bought it that it must have been dropped in a swimming pool or would have coffee or tea spilt on it but was very surprised when it arrived the next day in excellent condition. I'll sell it on eBay after I'm done for 2p and make a 100% profit :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read. 2 Aug. 2011
My son is an avid golfer who enjoys reading biogrophies of his favourite golfers. He is staggered by the amount of money Tiger earns.
