Book Description

One of the most feared weapons of World War II, the Tiger tank was a beast of a machine which dominated the battlefields of Europe with its astonishing size, speed and firepower. It continues to fascinate more than 70 years after it was first designed, and a comprehensive, illustrated history such as this is long overdue. Revealing its design and development history, Thomas Anderson draws upon original German archival material to tell the story of the birth of the Tiger. He then analyzes its success on the battlefield and the many modifications and variants that also came into play. Illustrated throughout with rare photographs and drawings, many of which have never been published in English before, this is a unique history of easily the most famous tank ever produced.

4.0 out of 5 stars A formidable tank, but over-engineered. 21 Sept. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Many good photographs, informative diagrams, and interesting facts. Information is organised under various headings: mobility, firepower, armour etc. There is some duplication of information under the headings, but given the complexity of the Tiger's development and roles this is fair enough.

This powerful tank was over-engineered, costly (and slow) to manufacture, and difficult to maintain. But it carried a formidable reputation in the field which is fully explored.

Anderson's writing is clear, and I found no typos. I enjoyed reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars TIGER 3 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very well written and researched book, covering all aspects of the formidable Tiger, including manufacture, production types, repair and battle history on both the Eastern and Western fronts.
If you have an interest in German armoured vehicles, do not miss this book, it's worth buying just for the many detailed and clear photographs, most of which I have never seen, despite reading numerous books on the eastern front and mechanised ww2 warfare
If you only buy one book on the Tiger, buy this one, I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

A very workmanlike book which deals with all aspects of Tigers.
A must if you want to understand Tank Warfare and how this Tank influenced all future Tanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars No technical drawings!! 1 Sept. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Just passed quickly over this very detailed account of all operational modes of the Tiger Tank . Impressive in its detail but would have liked to have seen technical drawings of the interior of the tanks , especially the engine compartment and electrics. Photos of the interior , drivers controls and weapon controls, radio operators desk would have been nice as would have extracts from the drivers manual. Going back later to read it thoroughly. Are there similar books about the Sherman or Churchill Tanks?

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this book 21 Dec. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really enjoyed this book, lots of technical information on a pivotal weapon of war, that helped revolutionise tank warfare and counter anti tank weapons.

Only complaint I would have would be that there was not more information on its use in battle. Would have been 5 stars if that had been the case. Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in the Tiger.

5.0 out of 5 stars other than that an excellent read. 31 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
this is a very well researched book. Not only does give a detailed decription of the tiger its self but it describes the effort that was reqired to keep
the tiger in the field and recover it when things went wrong. The book has lots of photos but unfortunately they dont reproduce very well on my
kindle. other than that an excellent read.

lots of detail, including pictoral information, a little brief, no indication of the number of pages. Insufficient technical detail specifically about the tank itself. Still, if you're starting from a low baseline of information then there's plenty here to keep you interested.
