Book Description

Tied with a Ribbon: A Christmas Story

It's only four weeks until Christmas but Alice has had a tough year and is struggling to get into the Christmas spirit.

As the owner of a gift-wrapping shop 'Ribbons and Bows', this is her busiest time of year and as much as she'd like to, Alice cannot possibly escape all the seasonal festivities.

Dena has worries of her own, not least of all, financial ones which are threatening to put a dampener on Christmas for her and her family.

These two life-long friends do their best to help each other out at this particularly poignant time of year when it's all too easy to feel alone.

And so, will Alice and Dena get to have their merry Christmas? Will they be rockin' around the Christmas tree, or will it be all silent night and very bleak in their midwinter season?

Or maybe it will take some festive magic to help things along. A guardian angel perhaps or maybe the loving, helping hand of a certain ghost from Christmas past.

Tied with a Ribbon: A Christmas Story is a warm, feel-good Christmas book. Fiction for women, it has all the elements; drama, romance, friendship and humour that make it a delightful Christmas story that can be enjoyed year after year.

More About the Author

Jennie's earliest memory of story-writing is as a child bashing away on her mother's 1940s Underwood typewriter.

Many years later she enjoyed publishing success with her short stories -
success which she says went straight to her head - giving her the confidence
to work on novels, in between occasional lapses when she had to work
in the real world!

Jennie's first novel 'The Beach Hut' was published in 2012.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a good short read 28 Oct. 2013

This book may start off a little sad, what with Alice still mourning the death of her mother in the spring. But what I loved about this is that it soon picks up as she starts to get into the Christmas spirit - decorating the shop and buying presents for everyone. The way the story follows Alice and her best friend Dena on the run up to Christmas - both of their lives are at so different points, their worries are so separate. Also, the ending was perfect for a Christmas short story - happy endings. All in all, it was a good read for an hour - I got the book during a free promotion, and I'm not sure the length of it makes it worth the price.
The only reason I deducted a star was because I really wanted it to follow on from where it left. I know it was a Christmas story, so it ended on Christmas day, but I wanted to continue reading the about the characters - about Dena moving into a house finally, and Alice tracing her birth mother. It was just that there were a couple of things I wish I could have found out at the end of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets you into the Christmas mood 9 Aug. 2013

I have recently purchased Jennie Alexander's latest book, `Winnifred Cottage' which I'm really enjoying so far and it reminded me to write a review for her Christmas book, `Tied with a Ribbon', which I read last Christmas.

It was a really lovely story and the beautifully written descriptions of Alice's gift wrapping store, `Ribbons & Bows', made me feel like I was there myself and when she described how it was decorated for Christmas, it made me wish that `Ribbons & Bows' was just down the road from me - it had such a sparkly, Christmas feel to it! I was also able to get a really good feel for the characters very quickly.

The story was a bit shorter than I had expected but it definitely gets you into the Christmas mood - it just would have been nice to stay in that world for a little longer!

Quick and easy read. Good story too.
My wife ordered and read it quite quickly, but she said it was an enjoyable read.
Read on the Kindle, my account, but she never writes reviews!
