In Tie and Tease Penny Birch is on a confident high, with all her favourite cast of characters, Amber & Co, popping up conveniently at all the right times and keeping the momentum of the story line right through to a satisfying and credible conclusion. On the way there is no end to the creative and original things which can be done to this heroine's body but it would be unfair to reveal what she does to put Melody in her ...em... place in response to being herself spitted and basted as potential barbecue meat. This is one submissive who is anything but a weak character yet it is strange how she always ends up over someone else's knee, under some queen's bottom, fervently servicing some dirty old man. The reader is perpetually torn between riding to her rescue and fighting the urge to put her over his/her own knee to reinforce the message that she will have to do better.
If this is a strong story in itself there is also a neatly woven subplot subtly arguing the case for recreational S&M and weighting the main story line with provocative ballast alongside the entertainment. The case is well made by Penny Birch. I speak of the author, of course, not the shameless and weak-willed slut of the same name who unless she reforms will undoubtedly get what she has coming to her in Temper Tantrums which I believe is due out soon.
