When the youngest moved into her "big bed", which is one of those beds with storage that is higher than the norm, we soon realised two things; firstly that it was not going to be practical to have a bedside table and secondly that you do actually need somewhere next to a bed to put reading books, a light and those little bits and bobs that clutter the normal bedside.
The "Bunk Bed Buddy" is, as you can see from the picture, a small set of shelves, made of sustainable wood and available in a range of different finishes, from natural through to white, pink and blue. We chose a pink shelf to match the rest of the room. They measure W53cm x H33cm x D13cm, which is quite compact, and come fully assembled. With the Bunk Buddy we got all the fittings to install it and instructions with a suggestion position for the shelf, one metre from the head of the bed, which we followed to the letter. There are three holes in the back of the shelf to attach it to the wall.
In practice these shelves work really well. The finish and build quality are pretty good, and they are not so deep as to be unsafe or a hindrance. The paint we have, as previously mentioned, is pink and is a nice matt finish. You can fit a fair few items into the Buddy, it isn't that deep, by my measurements the internal dimension of the bottom shelf gives you about 10.5cm usable depth, and about 15cm height. Currently our shelves are holding a few favourite reading books, easily accessible for story time, a small teddy, some jewellery and, randomly, some plastic dinosaurs. We also have clipped a light to it. The shelves are really just ideal for all those little items that a child might want or need if in a high bed or bunk bed. As the shelves are lipped things aren't likely to fall out, and everything can easily be accessed by the child.
The design is pretty plain and inoffensive, and I think that the design does work well and fulfils a need. I wouldn't say that these are the cheapest of shelves, hence the 4 stars, but they do have certainly solved the problem of books and other things being on the floor and provided useful storage space. What's most important is that my daughter loves them!
