Great film,I can watch this over and over again and find something different each time. The cast was truly cherry picked as each one acted his or hers heart out,and played the parts to perfection..
The adaptation runs in sections, each section linked by Emily Kennedy, the heroine, who was very pretty (Gillian Kearney) and attractive, but so was her sister Lucy, and what a fine performance from the younger sister...
Ray Stephenson as Larry was magnificent, preferred him in this to the other Cookson films. His acting was flawless, and you could feel his raw strength increasing as the film advanced. His hatred for his wife and the way he treated her was utterly convincing. His wife was really supreme as the invalid/ghost,also her brother Conrad who played the backward but loveable "one".His tragic death was really harrowing to watch.
It was a very moving, sad, realistic, heart rending story, one of the best Cookson tales.Take a tip from me and buy it!This is a firm favourite of mine.
