Elvis Sings the Great British Songbook

Biography

Elvis Aaron Presley is one of the biggest-selling artists of all-time, but mere numbers cannot begin to explain the colossal cultural impact he had in the mid-20th Century. He was a central figure in the transformation of the grey, conservative 50s into the technicolor 60s through the liberalizing effect of rock and pop music. Frank Sinatra had proved extremely popular in the 40s with young ... Read more in Amazon's Elvis Presley Store

3.0 out of 5 stars The rarest of Elvis soundtrack albums 25 Feb 2008
Format:Audio CD
Shot in only two weeks, the film Tickle Me was United Artists' lifesaver. Even tho' Elvis got $750.000 plus half the profits, the filmcompany survived a bad period, because Elvis made the young pull out big bucks for a very flimsy movie...
But he made up for it musically, even when he didn't have any new material to work with. The soundtrack to the film consists of material recorded and released between his return from the army and the year prior to the release of this film (1965).
This album contains all these songs, in superb sound quality, and the songs are really a lot better than the movie would have people think. Add some nice alternate versions so you can hear Elvis the artist work his magic, and along with two actual 1965 radio commercials one finds him or herself holding a true collector's item!

2.0 out of 5 stars I wasnt tickled pink with this! 19 Nov 2007
Format:Audio CD
Follow that dream records, the collectors division of RCA have done it again with another superb re-packaging in their latest series of original EP re-issues. Turning their attention to the often overlooked 1965 "Tickle Me" movie soundtrack EP. This EP comprised of recordings Elvis made prior to the film ever being thought of. For the one and only time in an Elvis movie, the songs are taken from previous studio albums, namely "something for everybody" and "pot luck" and "Elvis is back". Now correct me if Im wrong but Follow That Dream have alreasy re-issued these Lp,s on the new collectors lable, so why do this one? I am confused totally here.

Not a classic film by any accounts, it came from a very low period in Elvis's movie career. Not the worst film by any means but not one that many fans would watch over and over. Ok the soundtrack is ridiculously good as it was from a srong early sixties catalogue but even at the time this EP must have been a bit of a waste of time.

This CD set gives you the original EP, then a batch of first takes and alternate takes. Beautiful packaging and detailed booklet help show the production process and how the songs came to be, but they are on the other FTD releases. This is a bit pointless.

But if you are sad like me and have to have all of the FTD releases then buy it, but you have been warned and as with all the Follow That Dream Extended Play releases, you only get a handful of songs so it can get repetative.

You do get much better value for money when they re-issue a complete LP, then often stretch it over 2 discs.

Please FTD keep up the Re-issues and the great packaging but dont do the pointless ones, as it gets too expensive to keep buying the same songs.

Cheers

Paul
