Product Description

Product Description

Meditation helps us relax, sharpens our minds, and increases our creativity. In The Tibetan Book of Meditation, Lama Christie McNally demonstrates that meditation also provides a much greater gift. It awakens our innate potential to shape our reality, to make moments of joy last forever, and to bring us the peace and contentment that we all ultimately seek.

Written in an instructional yet intimate style, the author guides readers through a progression of meditations, from the simple concept of compassion to the transformative concept of emptiness. Teaching technique and content at the same time, this book is unique in its comprehensive approach and will find a special place in the hearts of novice and experienced meditators alike.

Christie McNally, a renowned master teacher and lecturer who has studied with some of the greatest Indian, Tibetan, and western Buddhist masters, explains the central tenets of Buddhism and reveals how they apply to everyday life. Combining ancient wisdom and contemporary teachings, she leads readers along the path to a richer, fuller life through resonant examples and eye-opening insights.

Her engaging tone and fresh approach to the art of meditation will appeal to followers of Pema Chödrön and to readers of Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg, and Jon Kabat-Zinn. This down-to-earth guide to meditation brings the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism to a new generation.

I got this book, The Tibetan Book of Meditation by Lama Christie McNally as a present. I read the book and was so pleased I have bought two more books of it and gave them as presents to my friends.

It is a very simple book to read and understand. Every aspect of meditation is explained in a very attractive manner. It starts from the first steps such as posture, where to sit when and other preliminaries. Then goes on to describe "Meditation of Giving and Taking", "Exploring the line of myself" and a number of other meditations. This is followed by explaining Karma and related meditations. The advanced meditations of Emptiness is then presented and finally touching on Tantra.

All meditations are listed step by step making it very easy to follow. Moreover, meditation tips help improve one's ability to meditate and their daily life.

The illustrations are very beautiful, simple and appropriate. The cover is designed so cleverly it makes one feels that anyone can achieve the calmness through the Tibetan Meditation described in this book.

Whether you are trying to get to grips with meditation or are a regular practitioner, you are sure to find this book a treasure. The author has experience in this field that most of us can only aspire to, but she has a wonderful way of writing, teaching and guiding you forward. I have a shelf-full of books on meditation and this is one of the best...

I have been working with some of the tibetan yoga practices from Geshe Michael Roach and this is a lovely book to compliment this style of practice. Unlike the traditional yogic form of meditation these are mostly ones that reign the mind in by focusing on positive intentions. Really nicely written and presented. I find the Tonglen practice and the Lady who stops war particularly good for me. The first as a therapist - it helps me to feel strong in myself and positive about those around me who may be suffering. The second as someone who feels anger at times. The practices really help me to find inner peace.

One criticism, I do find it better to do the Tonglen practice after having done the practice of visualising the diamond in the rose at your heart centre along with the repetition of Om Mane Padme Hum first. It ensures that your image of the diamond is strong before you take in the grey smoke of another's pain.
