5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 27 Jan 2012
By Annika

I've heard both good and bad things about this new Thundercats series, I personally think this series is just as good as the 80's version. The designs are nice and the characters are recognizable despite their upgrades.

There are actual elements I'm missing; like the fact that Cheetara play double with both Lion-O and Tygra, and doesn't act like her 80's independent wrestling-woman self. She's really the only element that I'm not entirely satisfied with, she's been changed too much in my taste.

Of course, the majority of the main characters, in this series, are teenagers so it makes for a valid reason to change their characters a bit and I must admit I'm pretty entertained with the sarcastic and proud Tygra.

Now, Snarf doesn't speak in the new series which I'm also able to accept, as his entire role in the old series was that of Lion-O's nursemaid, here he's simply a mascot, at least he makes up for it with charm and doesn't make annoying comments every once in a while. What I'm relieved about is that they hardly changed Panthro's character; he's still the tough mechanic whom I love, though the first few episodes nearly makes the watcher believe they killed him off for good.

Aside from the modern anime-esque design, I wouldn't say Lion-O or Wilykit and Kat are changed much either; Lion-O still shows the naļvete of a child but is also capable of acting seriously on his own, and Kit and Kat are still the little mischievous cubs that all Thundercats-fans loves.

The series is, in my opinion, very convincing for a remake and has a nice storyline to it, despite all the scepticism about it. I think this item was a bliss and I was happy to receive it so quickly. I hope the series will start up again soon, so that the second part of Book 1 will release quicker. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2 Oct 2013

I think this is the best reboot I have seen of any 80's Icon. The idea is well thought out the animation is great, or anime. With all the Thundercats agility and weapons they are perfect for anime style animation. The big deference in this is people/animals die. The battle fields are littered with corps of fallen cat soldiers or other warriors.

The characters Lion O is and stays younger in this series. People how remember the originals will remember he was actually a 10 year old in a 20 year old body. In this series he stays 16-18. Tygra is in his early to mid-twenties. Cheetara is about Tygra's age but because of her cleric/magical training she acts much more mature and is often the voice of reason. The kitten Kit and Kat are street urchins, adopted/baby sat by the surviving Thundercats. Panthro is the battle ready huge General of the Army, he looks and acts a lot tougher battle scars and all. He even actually hits people with his numchucks rather than just twirl them around.

The story the Cats are the ruling class of all the animals on the planet. There has been a ban on technology for so many decades generations have forgotten it exists. Young prince Lion O is intrigued by tech and is determined to prove it exists. Lion O is the younger of the 2 princes but because he has more lion blood then his older brother Tygra is next in line to become king. Even though Tygra would be everyone choice as he is better in terms of combat skills and behaviour/responsibilities (and he knows it). Everything is going well. Then the Thundercats are betrayed by one of their own, a resurrected Mom Ra, and an army with laser weapons and giant warbots. Now the surviving members must set on a quest to find the book of Omens and learn their own history to forge a better future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thundercats 2011 21 April 2012
Format:DVD
Interesting new take on the thundercats story with a far more anime style both in terms of art work and story presentation. Characters and plot altered to prevent it being a straight copy/remake. Good and looking forward to the release of the next series although the original cartoon will always be superior for childhood memory sake alone. Thundercats ho!

...and I don't say this lightly. I was a huge fan of the original but this updated version is better in about every way imaginable. I really hope dvd sales allow for a season 2. Buy this! You will not be disappointed.
