Ranking just behind the best of animator Don Bluth's films (Anastasia and The Secret of NIMH), Thumbelina is a bubble-light version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. The finger-sized heroine goes about the old-fashioned trials of trying to find a good man, but the film is clever enough to make it endearing for the 3-6 set and more than passable for adult viewers. Barry Manilow provides much of the song score, which helps immensely. The ballad "Let Me Be Your Wings" is as good as Disney's best. Carol Channing and Charo have a good ol' time with their songs too. The voice of Thumbelina is none other than Jodi Benson, who gave voice to Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid. --Doug Thomas, Amazon.com

I watched this movie several times as a kid and when I saw it on Amazon I just had to buy it.
This is truly an animated masterpiece and I would recommend anyone to buy this dvd. The movie is based on H.C. Andersens story 'Tommelise' where the little girl Thumbelina (who's no bigger than a thumb) falls in love with the fairy prince and then gets kidnapped by some gypsy toads.
If you like the Disney classic princess movies I'm sure you'll like this movie :D

Thumbelina is a truly enchanting animation!
I was first introduced to it at the age of 8, I was completely overwhelmed by the exciting and original characters, I am now 17 and I still adore the story and its music.
It revolves around Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, but a little jazzed up.
Thumbelina feels alone and lost in this big world as she thinks that she is the only small person. Her mother may tell her of fairies and happy endings but it is still a dream. That night she meets Cornelius, the fairy Prince and her true love.
They sing a beautiful duet together, let me be your wings, the concept is dreamy and romantic! But that night she is kidnapped by a toad. Winter is approaching and it is a dangerous time for so small a person.
She feels even more lost than before, for she is but the size of your thumb. Will she find Cornelius again and find her way home?

Got this for our 3 year old daughter as her Granny has a copy and she absolutely loved it. It is a beautiful film and totally appropriate for her age. Would highly recommend. Typically of course she doesn't watch it as much as I thought she would now that we have our own copy!

thumbelina
as you would expect it is a wonderful child film but i loved it to. my one year old daughter loves it also, it's one way to keep her quite so i can put my feet up.
