This lock is MADE OF SOFT PLASTIC. It looks the part but it is not robust at all, it may deter an opportunist thief from detaching your expensive Thule bike rack from your car but it's not going to stop a determined one. A small hammer and chisel could remove this lock in about 20 seconds (no joking here). The lock body should have been made from cast steel not injection moulded plastic (shame on you Thule). On the basis that something is better than nothing the this lock will do.

I ordered this to secure my excellent Thule Rideon cycle carrier to the car when it is unattended. This item is not up to Thule's usual high standards. It is made of soft lightweight plastic, and could easily be broken off with minimal force. It could only be considered as a deterrent to the opportunist thief. Also it is very expensive for what it is, i.e. a low quality plastic lock. Buying a decent cable lock or chain and using it to lock the carrier to the tow bar of the car would be a far more secure option.

A rather insubstantial piece of plastic - not the solid theft deterent I was hoping for.It will stop anyone from just lifting your carrier off, but if they have the tools to undo the fitting they will probably have the tools to cut or break the lock. Unfortunately a cycle lock to the towbar fitting will not work on my car, but you might consider this as an alternative.
The lock itself fits snugly onto the clamping bolt and was easy to fit. It was fiddly to remove the first few times.

Thule Rideon Tow Ball=Mount Lock
Works well. Was easy to fit. Every reason to think it will 'do the job'. Used it for four days at Centre Parks about a month ago but have not needed to use it since then.

Flimsy Lock
Not worth the money but may act as a deterent to thieves although I would imagine it would be fairly easy to smash off with a club hammer. Not worth the money.

Thule Rideon Tow-ball lock
Not as robust as I thought it would be, being made of thick plastic rather than metal. It would probably deter an opportunist thief but would not stop a determined villain!
