I've been following the web site for about a year. Thought I'd pick up a copy of the actual cookbook to give as a wedding gift, and I would just copy some of the recipes for myself. Well guess what, I just f**king ordered another copy for me! That's right, it's that good...and entertaining to boot.

I own many cookbooks, but this is the first time I actually sat down and READ the entire cookbook, instead of skimming along looking for interesting receipes. The language is to be expected, it's Thug Kitchen after all, and anyone who has been following these guys knows how they get down. Great, healthy and easy receipes presented in a lighthearted, at times crass, style.

I gotta tell ya i was skeptical. As a devout carnivore I find non meat dishes to be challenging to consume at times, at least when they are made in a healthy way. Just adding a bunch of oil and fat tends to make anything taste good but is not good for you. I was pleasantly surprised after making my first dish, roasted beer and lime cauliflower tacos with cilantro coleslaw, which was hands down the best veg taco i have ever eaten. Plus his roasted salsa recipe is easily restaurant quality. I should know, i have a serious addiction to salsa and am quite the salsa shark. Oh, did i mention these are the best veg tacos i have ever had? I did? Good cause its worth saying twice. The recipes are also well laid out and easy to follow, if you are a novice you should still be a success. This chef knows what he is doing and the way some of these ingredients come together is super impressive. I am an Anne Burrell die-hard fan and I eat like a rock star all the time but as i got more educated i learned that eating all those deliciously meat filled meals are overwhelmingly unhealthy- in much much more than just the usual cholesterol raising way we have all been taught. I am exponentially relieved to have this book in my kitchen so i can continue cooking with my fiance as we love to do but in a less physically and environmentally detrimental way. The breakfast bars in here are delicious and next we are gonnna make the veggie burgers. If you need some inspiration on how to cook in a non traditional, healthy yet super fuggin delicious way, this book is for you. He is also super crass which is just awesome and fun to read. There are a ton of good recipes in here and i cant wait to get to them all. BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU WANT TO EAT BETTER WITHOUT SACRIFICING TASTE, TEXTURE, FLAVOR AND CULINARY BLISS. Your welcome for this recommendation in advance :) You wont be disappointed. (unless you're really fuggin weird)

I don't know if the language is just a marketing tool, or whether the writers actually converse in the manner in which they write.
It's probably not much different to that which one would hear in a British Parliamentary Cabinet meeting on any given day.
Regardless, the recipes are excellent, the instructions are clear and delivered with humor & obscenities, the layout, fonts and pictures all pleasing.
I received some blood-work results last Friday & went vegan on Saturday.
Casting about for vegan cookbooks I came across this one & don't regret purchasing it.
At all.
Had the Roasted Beet & Quinoa Salad for dinner last night & it was very very good. Non Vegan partner tried some & she emerged from the kitchen with a smile & a full plate. Which was a bit of a p-ss off as that was my next day's lunch.
Leafing through the book I came across many recipes I want to try, so I am making the shopping list & will shortly be off like a robber's dog to the grocery store.
Don't let the language deter you. The food is good.

Great cookbook. Fun, not your boring ol' recipes. The first recipe I made the sweet potato black bean enchiladas. First, it is the best enchilada sauce I have ever had. It was extremely easy to make and no fancy ingredients. My 7 year old daughter will not eat sweet potatoes. I have baked them, roasted them, mashed them and she just gives them the stink eye. Well, she ate these enchiladas and didn't even know there were sweet potatoes in them. My son thought the filling was refried beans! I would definitely give this cook book a chance if you want to try and cook healthier foods for yourself and your family and want to have some fun doing it. What do you got to loose except high cholesterol and a few inches around the waist.
