Product Description

Ear Candy

Instead of a Beam!, Part II, he has delivered an artistic progression. Truly stunning!

Ken Worthing (Add Some Music)

Thru A Glass Brightly is a far more cohesive, deeper and melodic work than his first solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for the heart (Review By Kevin Mathews), 14 Mar 2011
This review is from: Thru a Glass Brightly (Audio CD)
One of 2001's hidden treasure troves, this gorgeous album by Brit PETER LACEY brings together the affecting chamber pop touches of BRIAN WILSON's Pet Sounds era. Also, evident, are ANDY PARTRIDGE's recent dalliances with orchestral conceits (see Apple Venus Part I) and ELVIS COSTELLO's collaborations with BURT BACHARACH. There is remarkable consistency in the repertoire that will amaze and please. One for the heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars shining art pop/rock album, 13 Jan 2002

admittedly i still haven't heard the debut album
but this sophomore album is a treat for head & heart. loads of influences, Beach Boys, Beatles,
& Steely Dan come to mind but its no rip off.
saved by 24 carat melodies and intriguing word-picture imagery very much its creators making.
i would have given the album 5 stars, but the production values are not state-of-the-art but
are still mind-blowingly good for home grown sounds. Recommend it to anyone in love with
music from the 66-76 period in art pop.

5.0 out of 5 stars through this listening glass, 28 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Thru a Glass Brightly (Audio CD)
I would quite happily have settled for a sequel to Lacey's first aural outing BEAM! as it was a delightful album, full of unexpected musical and lyrical turns.

To continue the metaphor,"Thru A Glass Brightly" is simply acrobatic. It would not be out of line to make comparisons between the leap in confidence from The Beatles initial "Please Please Me" album to "With The Beatles". Within the
space of one record you feel and hear a transformation, one brimming with an esteem few artists attain and many crave. This is not bravado. The album has no ostentations. It's simply a case of beautiful songs, with melodies that pour into your mind like cream over a spoon.
Again, the lyrics are at once whispers round a corner which speak directly to the heart.

A truly stunning second outing. And, ear to the ground, one can begin to hear the quiet rumble of Lacey third album, which I await with healthy trepidation.
