Biography

Steven Patrick Morrissey (born 22 May 1959), known primarily as Morrissey, is an English singer-songwriter. He rose to prominence in the 1980s as the lyricist and vocalist of the alternative rock band The Smiths. The band was highly successful in the UK but broke up in 1987, and Morrissey began a solo career, making the top ten of the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom on ten occasions. Product Description

CD Description

Morrissey’s brand new single “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris" is released on three physical formats, supported by two new songs--“Shame is My Name” is included on this version of the single. The single is taken from Morrissey’s forthcoming new studio album Years of Refusal, completed earlier this year at Conway Studios in LA with the late Jerry Finn, producer of Morrissey’s acclaimed 2004 UK No.2 album You Are The Quarry. Morrissey describes the new album, the follow up to 2006’s Ringleader of The Tormentors (a UK No.1), as his strongest work to date.

In a Good Place . . . 15 Feb 2009
By tallpete33 TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I'm not a big singles buyer but was given this as a gift and well received it was too. Note there are two CD single versions, the other with Because Of My Poor Education as a second track (now why would the record company release two versions I wonder....?)

Paris is a very uplifting track that I first heard on a bright Sunday morning, and it hit the spot instantly. Quite short and poppy, it obviously catches Mr M in a good place and on good vocal form. The big band sound complete with excellent woodwind sections make this an instant hit for me.

Shame is a slightly more grungy more classic Morrissey-esque number and an excellent second track. Additional female vocals and guitars reminiscent of November spawned a Monster give it a harder rocking edge. Note, it is not on the album so hard-core fans might want to buy this CD rather than waiting for the inevitable compilation.

Bonus points for the classy sleeve and artwork. Love the photo of Morrissey kneeling in front of the band while they look distastefully at copies of his Greatest Hits CD

If "Refusal" is as good as these two, we're in for a treat - watch this space !

Another Classic! 9 Feb 2009
By Craig Taylor VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
As soon as you hear the first bar of the music, it instantly sounds like a Morrissey song. As always the lyrics are beautiful in Morrissey's unique style of writting and you'll soon find you self singing along.
The b-side 'Because of my poor education' is much slower than the title track, but Morrissey fans old and new will love!
Bring on the album!

My new favourite song ever, really really beautiful. Another reviewer has called this a rip-off due to not including the B-side while admitting that it's a good song, how should that earn the song itself a low rating?

Five stars for the song, then it's up to you to decide how to buy it.
