Yet again Maureen Lee has managed to leave me wanting more.... Her stories are such page-turners. (I was up till 3 a.m.reading). Her depiction of life in Liverpool during the war had me enthralled and for the first time ever the horrors of the Second World War stuck in my mind like no history book account has ever managed. Her characters so life like that I almost expected to see them at the recent "Remembrance Sunday" ceremonies. Coming from a generation that has never known real hardship, the story gave a frighteningly realistic sense of the hardship and sufferings of our forebears. Reading these novels gave me a real understanding of what they endured and overcame, and a pride in what they achieved.
