Sounding like a weird muzak hybrid, something that should be pumping from the stereo of every small shop in the country, comes Thrillington.
The carnival of sound, the weirdness of hearing Ram transferred, the strange kitch...and the utter addictive brilliance, make this a cd well worth getting. It is the coolest thing I have heard in a long time.
Sitting somewhere between jazz, pop and Sinatra's backing band, Thrillington really weaves a wonderful web. The rendering is perfectly suited to Monkberry Moon Delight which parps and burbs along, bouncing to a crecendo of madness, sweeping you up with it until you can't help but sing "dooba dooba, doobeedo..." It is just so much fun.
Try it on your friends. This is the best, most re-playable cd I have heard in a long time, and can't fail to make you feel happy, and just a little silly.

As a Beatles fan from 1963 it's a challange to own all records even the owns from the solo career.
Paul is special and not all of his work is produced for easy listen. This one is an example for it.

I have listened to this album many times over and I really only like it by proxy. That is to say, it's closely modeled on the original album I'm so fond of. But in all honesty, cool idea though it is in theory to have a sort of jazzy lounge version of Ram, I find this album to be lacking in that certain something throughout. Possibly because McCartney's lyrics are underrated and, along with his vocal delivery, much missed, or possibly because the band sound like they are a bunch of squares. Suddenly the tunes have lost their romance and splendour and have become stiff and a little tedious. It's very well crafted stuff and still has something, but much of the magic is gone. Best just listening to Ram.

Again ahead of the game
Recordings for this album were made in 1973 BEFORE the original Ram album and were from arrangements by Richard Hewson at the instigation of McCartney himself. Read more
