I was on the Dave Ramsey plan 2 years ago in an effort to turn things around for myself. Of course, one of the things you have to do to be a true Dave Ramsey fanatic, is to save money so that you can pay down your debt. So I didn't have a lot of extra money for reading and the library is fairly long drive from my house.
So I got this little book for less than a dollar. I was very impressed with just how much of it really does ring true for today's modern society. Mr. Smiles is indeed a literary ancestor of Dave Ramsey.
You should know that this book was written very long ago. And there are some things that have changed. The author refers to "penny savings banks," things like saving a dollar a week, and etc. But it's still very easy to adapt to what he is saying. Needless to say, a dollar back then, bought way more than a dollar does now.
The gist of his advice, and Dave Ramsey's, is to avoid debt. Always save. Live within your means. And work hard. Common sense stuff, but it's fun to read about how people have always had problems with taking on too much credit debt. Looks and works great on my Kindle.
As for me, yes, I worked hard and finally became debt-free! Freedom! :)
