Product Description

Synopsis

Finally Abby is thirteen. A real teenager who only wants to pierce her ears, have a boyfriend, and run her own life. But when her mother suffers a nervous breakdown, Abby faces a life far different from what she hoped. Set in the Bay Area in the '70s, this emotional, funny, and extraordinarily heartfelt novel centres around a young girl's struggle to hold her family together, find love from a mother who has little to give, and simply try to be thirteen. A completely fresh and honest character, Abby takes us on a journey that is often hilarious, sometimes heart-breaking, and overwhelmingly hopeful. An Egg On Three Sticks is a unique story that will catch you by surprise and won't let go until the very last page. Jackie Moyer Fischer is the most original voice to debut in years.

Mental illness in the family/affect on teens/kids.... 24 May 2004
By Susan G. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a quick read about the impact that mental illness has particularly on a blossoming teenager. It is a bittersweet story, one which pulled me back to the pain of adolescent years. Take those memories and throw in the challenge of watching your family torn apart by the ravages of mental illness. Beautifully written through the eyes of a young teen, you cannot go away from this without some awareness of the mammoth weight that some kids carry, and yet survive in spite of their challenging circumstances. I hope this author is busily working away - I'm ready for the next volume...

Brilliant. 8 May 2004
By Claire Hennessy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The story of a young teenager and how she deals with life after her mother's suicide attempt and hospitalisation. Abby's voice is spot-on. It's a compelling read.

Anticipate, empathize, laugh 21 May 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I could read and listen to Abby forever. For anyone having any association with depression, this will ring so true. For anyone without an understanding of depression, here is your exposure.

Oh, and the book is really funny, too.
